lp333, I went out and checked the plumbing and this is how it is set up, all reference is from standing behind the tractor looking forward... This is the way a BX23 is set up, I do not know if the BX24 is the same or not .... Scott

Scott, you are to be congratulated for braving the elements to gather this priceless information for BX22, BX23 and BX24 owners.

Of all the posts that I have found regarding the BX rear remotes, none has been clearer, more complete, yet briefer than yours. With your description (and MadReferee's authoritative approval), any BX22 or BX23 owner can now install a rear remote without fear... and probably better than most Kubota dealers. The proceedure on the BX24 is even simpler given than the third return pipe is already installed.

Scott, thanks for a job well done. lp

Mad or Harley,

What diameter hoses do you reccommend for this installation?

/ BX24 rear remotes/hydraulic top link #23
You mean for the work ports?

If so then 1/4" hoses from the valve's work ports to the cylinders. This will give you just enough restriction to allow you to feather the cylinder movement.

Pressure hoses should match what is already on your tractor, probably 3/8".

Exactly the info I needed.

Thanks for the expertise!

HarleyScooter,

Can you post a photo of the fitting you added on the right side of the rear diff/ trans as a return to tank line and/or provide any information on that installation?

Thanks

Fran, sorry I have not been on the site for a few days. The fitting I used is a
9/16-18 o-ring to a #6 JIC male adapter fitting. I used all 1/4" hyd. lines and #6 JIC end fittings. The only caution I will tell you is when you use the 90 degree JIC hose fittings on both ends of the hoses, you must be very sure of you fitting alignment or you will not be able to connect the hoses. I will attach pictures of the stock plug and then the adapter installed. I borrowed the pictures from a thread by Junkman.

Scott,

No problem on the delay!

Thanks for locating the great photos and the tip on the 90 degree fittings. I was driving right by and stopped by my dealer and asked what Kubota had to offer, which was a Rear Remote Valve Kit ($284) which required one of three hose sets (around $179) which sounded kind of pricey, but apparently they pull off the FEL Valve, instead of using the BH. Do you know why they would go that route?

Because the remotes will always be available whether you have a backhoe connected or not. Connecting the backhoe ports disables the 3pt right?

And yes they are pricey. You can do much better by sourcing the parts yourself.

MadReferee,

Thanks for the response!

Besides a Hydraulic Thumb, what could the remotes power with the BH on?

An installation made on the FEL valve is the right way to do it. Hassle free because it's permanently connected and the backhoe outlet is used only for the backhoe (it gives you the option for a thumb too). I had a valve connected temporarily on the backhoe outlet to control two cylinders for my snowblower. I had to disconnect the valve each time I wanted to connect the backhoe. If you're looking for something pleasant to operate without dallying with hoses go for the connection on the loader valve.

I had to deal with the same dilemma with my B3030. I have an outlet for the backhoe but I opted for a more permanent installation... hassle free, backhoe or not, the valves are there and they are fonctionnal.

Stef,

When you utilized the backhoe ports for the valve on your BX23 did it disable the 3pt hitch operation as MadRef suggests?

/ BX24 rear remotes/hydraulic top link #32
Thanks Stef,

I like the idea of not having to play with the Remote Hoses to mount the BH.

Also, my dealer suggested mounting the Rear Remote Valve on the FEL Valve Mount rather than the ROPS and I assume the Fender, any thoughts here?

Think about how you are going to use the rear remotes.

If you are turning to the right to look back at the implement your left hand will be on the steering wheel and you right hand will be right next to the fender or ROPS. This makes it very easy to use a fender/ROPS mounted valve while you are watching how the implement reacts.

If the remote valve was mounted on the FEL mount tower then you would have to cross your hand over to use the remote valve or turn back facing forward thus loosing your view of the implement. Awkward at best and impossible for some people. This way kind of makes it difficult to adjust as you are going.

We worked up our own valve kit for the BX24. Its a valve body, lever, bracket with two couplers for the connection, and plumbing that hooks into the backhoe loop. It takes about 10 minutes to install once its all built. Right now I have an assembled kit ready to go, we put it together on a guys tractor and he backed out. Its not cheap, we're looking at $650 for the parts and labor to build all the hoses -- but this is a brainless, easy way to get a rear remote on a BX24.

No, it doesn't disable the 3pt hitch. Here's why: the hydraulic flow on the tractor is continuous. When you operate a valve, it closes the circuit (more or less, it depends how hard you push the spool) and use the flow and the pressure to push on one side of the cylinder's piston. When the valve returns at its neutral position, the circuit is reopened, so the flow pass through the valve and continue its way into the circuit.

That question could be asked, in the same way, about the backhoe valve. When the backhoe is connected does it disable the 3pt? The answer is no, it's not disable but the hitch is restrained to move freely because of the backhoe plateform. It can be lowered a bit though. The valve takes pressure and flow when needed otherwise the flow only pass through the valve.

Is it a setup like this one? First pic, the valve is mounted on the rops. Second pic, the valve is removed (2 bolts on the rops and two hoses with quick couplers).

I'm sorry, I just saw that I already posted these pictures. Anyways, the question remains the same. I'm pretty sure your setup would look more or less like this one. I mean, a valve is a valve afterall.

MadReferee,

That is what I thought at first, but when the dealer mentioned it I figured I was missing something!

MessickFarmEqu,

Is your kit higher quality and/or does it have more features than the Kubota OEM unit?

Do you have any photos?

Stef,

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Messick,

I'm sure you will have some takers, as there has been some interest here in adding remotes to BX's. Not sure what valve etc. you are using, but I figure to have about $350 into my 2 spool remote. That includes 1 cylinder for a top link.
