It might be a matter of cash flow. Most new tractors are on floor plans. The dealer retails the tractor and then must immediately pay off the floorplan. He is left with the difference (profit) in his pocket, less overhead, etc. Now if he takes a trade, he still has to pay off the floor plan, but the bank won't take a used tractor for payment, they want $$. So if in a week, the dealer takes in $50K in trades, he better have an extra $50K available to pay off his floor plan. I think some dealers get in a cash crunch and miss golden opportunities to take in trades. We encourage trades and advertise that way, but we put a little money aside to make this work. Nothing better than selling a new tractor for a little profit then selling the trade in a few days later for a little extra profit, but it won't work if you can't afford to "buy" the trade.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Mahindra has to start weeding out the dealers that aren't meeting minimum standards.. The dealer I bought mine from sells ATVs, motorcycles, chainsaws , lawnmowers, gas trimmers, forktrucks, and oh ya Mahindra tractors. They have one mechanic to do setup and work on everything.

. On my tractor the FEL control fell off the tractor within the first half hour, the rear lugs on one rear tire where hand tight and the wheel almost fell off. The hydraulic cylinders on the front bucket where in different holes, the rear hydraulics where backwoods. I had to redue the front hydraulic lines because they fell off. . And when I took my tractor in for it's first 50 hour service The Mechanic admitted they didn't change the hydrostatic fluid because they had this big filter they couldn't figure out where it went.

All of these and other problems I have had where the dealer, but they reflect on the Mahindra name ..........

And at the county fair , talking to other Mahindra owners who love there tractors , there was one reocuuring theme ( and they brought it up , I didn't ) the service after they bought there tractors.........

So for you dealers out there doing a good job and posting here to help Mahindra owners, Thumbs Up !!! and Thankyou.....

Mahindra has to realize these quick buck dealers they have out there will drive down the resale of a quality tractor quicker than anything else.. And hurt the Mahindra name and the good dealers...

Mahindra !! Pay attention.............

I agree with the financing issue, with the subsidized financing on new units, it makes it hard to justify even nice used machines. Steve, I corresponded with you on your 2015 some time back, it appears to be a very nice unit and I wanted it. However when I ran the numbers, buying used with bank financing vrs new with subsidized financing, it did not compute as the bottom lines came very close & I ran the numbers on a bunch of used tractors. If I had the cash I would now own your machine, but most of us regular "joes" out here do not have a pile of cash laying around. I have not purchased yet as I'm trying to build up some cash to keep the eventual payments reasonable, both in size & length.

Dave,
He's barely in the tractor business (or any business) at all anymore. I drove by yesterday and there was only two Cub Cadets out front. No more Woods implements, no more Kawasaki atv's...
I wonder what happened?
When I bought mine there was expansion going on and it looked good.
I was lucky not to have any issues at all.
Mahindra has gone with Knoxland in Warner, a longtime established Massey dealer. I think they'll do well, they seem to like the line.

dgl24087, No I bought the tractor from a small dealer in Marietta, OH who as dbelisle mentioned is a very small dealer and into everything from weedeaters to trailers but mostly "off brands" , this is one of the dealers who didn't want to trade, I stopped at Hayhurst last week and they were going to get back to me with a price but I haven't heard anything from them, it looks like if they were interested they would call me, I'll try giving them a call today to see what happens.

I have looked at the Kubota L3130 (very nice tractor) and I may go that way if I can get a better trade (or a better deal if I sell mine) or I'm still considering the L3400 as well but like I said I am very impressed with the new 3215 and I've been more than happy with the Mahindra brand but I agree maybe Mahindra should weed out some of it's smaller dealers, I got a better price from the "small dealer" I purchased my 2015 from than several larger dealers I checked but at what cost down the road ??

I'll just keep looking and maybe I'll sell mine or find the right trade.
It looks like I've traded off my backhoe (to the guy who owns the local flooring store for flooring for our new home) so the trade or sale will be for the tractor, loader, and canopy.

Sometimes a small dealer has about zero overhead. He has no mechanic except himself, his delivery truck is his wife's Suburban, his shop is his barn. So if he makes $100, he's happy. But then if you need the tractor picked up for service, you have to wait til the wife is home. If you need a major repair done, he's over his head. If he's working on two tractors at the same time, one is in the rain. So you can get a bargain, but it is at the expense of the dealers trying to do it right. Even so, it isn't your fault that Mahindra has a few dealers like this, nor are you obligated to buy from a bigger dealer. But keep in mind there is a reason that a full service dealer has to charge more.

Some of the little backyard guys like I mentioned above, actually grow into fisrt class dealerships. Many others don't. We started out from very humble beginnings ourselves.

That's a very good point, and I didn't intend to besmirch all Mahindra dealers as you noticed. It's not always possible, but in general I think Mahindra likely knows which small dealers are growing and which ones are withering on the vine. It's not that they are bad people, it's just that they are not what I think Mahindra needs right now.

As a side note, I'm really happy that nobody seems to have misinterpreted my previous comments as anything negative about Mahindra tractors. I think it's yet another sign that Mahindra is rising in value when people don't feel that any comment that isn't 100% all slobbering praise about every single little aspect of a tractor and it's sales pipeline is an insult. With some other brands, an all out war would be started if someone even mentioned the possibility that some of their dealers are not the absolute best dealers in the country. Such things only make me think of one word; insecure. And, that insecurity makes me wonder about how much the owners are really satisfied with the brand. Two thumbs up here to the proud Mahindra owners.

Another thought on this issue! The major brands attract many more cash buyers than minor brands. Cash buyers are apprecative of reputation, status, quality of dealers, easy resale and convenience. The majors just do a better job of handling people with money/egos. They want their friends and neighbors to see them operating a "major" brand. A one year old major brand tractor with low hours and still looks like new can be attractive to a cash buyer. Not all people finance their purchases. I would guess that the percentage of buyers that finance is much less with the majors.

In addition, the majors have a far larger market share in the commercial markets such as rental yards, landscapers, contractors, etc. For the most part commercial buyers use their own financing or pay cash for these small equipment purchases. Again, low houred one year old tractors can be an attractive purchase option.

Resale value is an important consideration when purchasing a new tractor. You never know when you are going to need it.

Your world is different than mine. I am an auctioneer and believe alot of machinery is financed. Yes some folks do pay cash but most contractor landscapers and etc don't. Leasing is big in my opinion. Cash buyers either buy new with 0% interest if the rebate is something that allows them pay cash or buys a low hour 1 or 2 year old machine. New buyers I would say finance.

Just my 2 cents.
