Can't get rid of my 2015hst

DonWorrel,

I don't think we are too far apart in our thought processes. The original poster was lamenting his inability to sell or trade his one year old minor brand tractor. I postulated major brand tractor sales attracted more cash buyers vs. minor brand tractors. I didn't say more cash buyers than those who financed, just more than minor brand tractor buyers.

You state..."Cash buyers either buy new with 0% interest if the rebate is something that allows them pay cash or buys a low hour 1 or 2 year old machine." You validate my arguement that a cash buyer could be interested in a one year old tractor. I just believe the major brands have more cash buyers. More might be 5, 10, 15 out of 100. Enough to make the occasional year old, low houred trade in an easy sale.

I'll just keep looking and maybe I'll sell mine or find the right trade. It looks like I've traded off my backhoe (to the guy who owns the local flooring store for flooring for our new home) so the trade or sale will be for the tractor, loader, and canopy. Thanks for all the replies!

Just my two cents Steve... In my neck of the woods (New England) the dealers (Green, Orange, Red, Purple or otherwise) all tell me that virtually no one trades anything anymore because they can always get more selling it outright in a private party sale. I believe them because: a) Only one dealer in 12 had anything even remotely decent (i.e., other than old rusting junk) on his lot in a used machine, and 2) I see the want ads and eBay listings and practically everything used and decent sells very quickly if the buyer is seeking a fair & reasonable price. The lesson here: Maybe don't trade... sell outright and use eBay if you are comfortable doing that.

I will also add that I shopped long and hard before buying and I saw no difference in percent retained value between so-called "major" and "minor" brands. I hate those terms because I consider my Mahindra totally superior to what I saw from the "major" (green and orange) brands, but those funky green and orange machines sure do have their followers. And let me clarify that in the category of "minor" brands I am NOT including any worthless, nameless Chinese junk. But back to my point... I am telling you ZERO difference in percent retained value for similarly clean, used (not abused), well-maintained machines. Everybody assumes that green and orange retain so much more because the used asking prices are so much higher... but look very closely at what they paid for the things in the first place! Mama Mia!!! And let me just add that inflated asking prices are not selling prices.

Lastly, I will only add my thought that you need to buy what you will need in the future... not just what you need today. This was the smartest darn thing I did in the last 25 years. Zero regrets on going big! I hope to have them bury this Mahindra with me when I die!!! :D

Another thought on this issue! The major brands attract many more cash buyers than minor brands. Cash buyers are apprecative of reputation, status, quality of dealers, easy resale and convenience. The majors just do a better job of handling people with money/egos. They want their friends and neighbors to see them operating a "major" brand. OrangeGuy

I truely got a wonderful laugh at this post. He should be writing for "Saturday Night Live". Why, anyone that has grown up with tractors, or has more than a passing whim regarding "what is and what ain't" and those that have the knowledge to look and do the necessary research on any brand would know that Mahindra just isn't something that happened yesterday. Sales manager of one of the largest tractor dealers in Virginia (Beverage Tractor who sell both Massey Ferg and Mahindra) told me last weekend that Mahindra is not the #3 in the United States and that they sell 3 Mahindras for every sale of a MF. I grew up on a farm in VA and we had Fords/JDs etc. What sold me on a 6000 Mahindra was looking at the butt end of it....It looked like a tank. That's what sold this dyed in the wool American farm boy. BobG in VA

Should read "now" vice "not". ie. "...is now the #3". Sorry, and by the way, I'm not intending any disparaging/insults on any brand, just know what I'm looking at....Sometimes I wish I could pick people as well as I can pick machinery.....BobG in VA

I still have it, I haven't really been trying locally but intend to list it locally to see what happens.

Steve,
Heavy Equipment Trader Online serves your area and has a farm and lawn equipment section. Their sites are traderpub.com and traderonline.com . The magazines sold here are the Great Lakes / New England edition. Your nearest office according to their site is in Charleston. Prices seem reasonable for a photo ad.

I find it hard to believe that Mahindra is the number 3 in volume tractor sales in the US. I think that dealer is feeding you a line of the good stuff.

The statistic my dealer fed me is that they are the "third largest tractor manufacturer in the world"... well ahead of big green and funky orange by the way.

In Taxachusetts where I live (unfortunately), we have only one Mahindra dealership and many more big green, funky orange, Canadian red (M-F), blue (NH) and almost orange (Kioti). Lord knows I think my Mahindra is the very best thing since sliced bread... but I've got to believe that "third in world sales" is what he may have meant! :)

Yes, I do believe the "3rd in the world" statement. A ways from #3 in the US, but maybe in a few years, who knows. Mahindras are fine machines.
