Can't get rid of my 2015hst

Hi Steve,
Wish you where around couple of months ago when I bought. Anyway, I wanted to ask why you don't like orange especially with your size issue? I looked at Manhindra, but was put off buy the way I fit; I ended up with a Grand L 3130 very comfortable. Also the Manhindra guy was very nice, but I see the dealer ship is closed now so I’m glad with my decision, but was impressed with the specs of Manhindra.

I bought a new 2015hst with loader last summer while I was building my house and it has been a GREAT tractor, no problems and I've done a lot of work with it
(250 hours in 14 months) but now I find myself wanting a larger tractor (I'm 6'1" \ 320) and I get along fine with the 2015 but it's a little cramped.
I'm wanting to get a 3215 hst but I can't get a dealer to trade with me and no one seems interested in buying the 2015?? Is the resale value of Mahindra this bad??
I bought the 2015 with the posibility of trading in a couple years and I like the Mahindra better than the orange or green tractors but I'm wondering if I'd have this much trouble trading or selling one of the more popular brands ???

What should I expect to get for a 05 2015hst with loader in good condition ????

Thanks!
Steve

Steve, call another dealer. It makes no sense that he would not take it in trade. Ask for 75% of what you paid for it. Start at 80% if you like to negotiate. Don't go under 70% if the unit is nice. If you were closer to us, I'd love to take it in trade on the new 2815/3215. I've wrote about this before, but you will see a 20-25% loss on a tractor going from new to used. Keep it several more years and it will likely still be worth 75% of new. The reason? Right now you can buy a new 3215 Mahindra and get 0% for 48 months. Figure what that is worth. If I had a used 3215HSt on the lot with 5 hours on it, the interest rate would be 10.4%. Figure, for the sake of argument that a buyer would finance $16K, that would be $3600 in interest at 48 months. Now that 5 hour tractor must sell for $3600 less to break even. Also figure the value of a years warranty, then deduct a little for 250 hours of wear and tear. Regardless of the brand, the item must be worth about that much less. It isn't so much a brand thing, but a math thing, as long as the Manufactures subsidize financing, this will come to play. Of course if it is a poor brand, it would be much less, but Mahindra is top notch.

Also remember that a dealer has to resell your tractor as used. They will probably want to make a few dollars to do it and can't sell it as new. As Dave said your probably going to see close to a 20-30% loss on a trade. Its not that your tractor isn't worth more to you. Its because new ones can be financed for lower interest. It would not matter if you had a Kubota, Deere, New Holland or any other brand. that big loss is there for trading in a one year old tractor (same goes for a 1 yr. old car or truck trade in). I don't think resale value is that bad if your a dealer.
Another point is the perspective buyer's view. Would the buyer want to spend say 12K on a 1 yr. old tractor with no warranty or 15K on a new one with warranty (all prices are hypothetical)
My tractor is 2 yrs. old and may be worth 16K to me but not someone else. Unless you can sit on it for a while to try and sell at a price you can live with you'll have to take the loss if you have to have the larger tractor now.

Hopefully you'll find a buyer soon for a reasonable price. I'd have to think there are more people like me who consider Mahindra the next closest thing to one of the big three CUT manufacturers. I'm quite impressed with the Mahindra tractors. However, in the last 25 years or so I've gone through over a dozen tractors and I've almost never lost money on any of them. All but one of them was purchased new. And, I'm also not talking about having a dealer "show" me as much as I paid for it in comparison to full sticker on another unit; I'm saying that I've nearly always gotten all my money back when I've sold or traded. On two units I actually made money.

I'm sure someone will try to attack me and say that I'm slandering Mahindra, but those will be people who can't read. As I said, I'm quite impressed with the brand. My guess is that Mahindra only needs to weed out the small dealers who sell out of a yard barn and begin requiring dealers to stock a fair amount of parts inventory, stock a few dozen new Mahindra tractors on their lot, and have a complete service department with factory trained techs to get their resale value to climb. I think their product is there; they just need to improve their public image by upgrading their dealers. I'd say that they can now be rather picky with who they allow to carry their units, not just grant a franchise to anyone who applies as long as there isn't already someone within a protected area. Needless to say, some with 'protected' areas need to be un-protected.

If you have to hang on to it for a while longer, I'd bet it won't drop in value any further. I get the feeling that quite a few of the off brand tractor makes will disappear in the next few years, but Mahindra definitely is not on that list. I'd say that Mahindra has 'arrived', but just needs better public perception from the dealer prospective. I can think of two Mahindra dealers in particular that sell on the side of the highway out of a yard barn and stock two or three new tractors maximum. I think seeing those sort of dealers hurt the public perception of Mahindra and I think Mahindra knows it and will be taking measures to fix it. Anyway, good luck!

Hi,

I like the looks of Mahindra and everything I have read about them.
But ..........
Pricing is funny. I have seem an almost new 201\gear\low hr with a loader with an ask of $8500 on a dealers lot and not moving.
Yet seems Deere\Kubota are just less that you can get a new one for and age really doesn't matter.

I had thought about bringing up the 2015 to Canada but there is only 1 dealer even remotely near me so became a parts worry issue and resale was going to be an big issue. Tough to even get pricing here. Would be closer to order from the U.S than try to get anything here.

It is odd the way things go as Mahindra is such a huge brand with great quality but I never see any advertised here is Canada and, even the Chinese tractors get more ink in sales.

Probably should become a dealer here in Canada.

Anyways, best of luck.

Have a great day
Tom

Not sure what happened, but a couple of years ago Mahindra was looking at setting up dealers up here. As far as I know the only one is down in the Niagra area.

Dargo,

You make some good points. I'm a Mahindra dealer, but I'm not offended by what you have posted.

On another note, the tractors that you traded in or sold for full price, weren't they older than a year? We've seen a number of people that bought tractors in the late eighties and early nineties get 100% of there money back, but that is somewhat because many only paid $7500 new for a tractor/loader that would now cost $15k new. As the new tractors have gone up and the dollar is worth less, some of these units are still worth $7500! Interesting how this works, and I wonder if the new units today will repeat this in another 20 years? Of course the guy that was making $25K/year in 1988 is making $50K now, so it's all relative.

Hi Woodbeef,

Yup, only 1 that I am aware of is in Welland and don't hear to much about them or their tractors or Mahindra period. Probably nearest after that is Lawall's in Batavia. Less than 100 miles so I should go down and see what the 2015\2615 with loaders go for nowdays.

Kind of a shame. Only way to go if interested is Stateside.

Not sure if Mahindra not interested in coming to Canada, floor plans or what but they sure don't have any kind of presence here.

Is surprising as Kioti is starting to make some headway here with dealer representation.

Would be real nice to see Kubota and Deere, who seem to be the biggest brands around here, get some more competetion. Not that have anything against those 2 brands but there are some other reasonably priced brands out there that may be able to sway some of the customers away.

Have a great one and enjoy

Tom

Steve,
In my opinion, which my opinion and a buck will get you a cup of coffee at any resturant in town:D , it's worth what you are asking for it. If I were in a position to buy right now, I would definitely come look at it. But that just my opinion and you know what people say about opinions!
Other wise defintely look into setting on the dealers lot. I had a MF dealer offer to set mine on his lot for no fee, if I bought the machine I was looking at.

It makes no sense to me that your dealer will not take the tractor back on trade, yet I have seen statements like that posted in more than one of the "minor brand" forums so I suspect that the market for your brand, in your specific area, is weak. I'd also suspect that your dealer is a weak dealer. Those are nothing but guesses on my part and I'm not trying to offend anyone. Any strong dealer would gladly take a trouble free tractor back in trade for a larger tractor. I was not even considering trading in one of my tractors (It is a "big 3" tractor but the brand shall be nameless for the purpose of this discussion) but at a couple years old I was offered my full purchase price for the tractor, I can only suspect the dealer had the ability to sell it for more than he offered me. I also believe in what Dargo wrote, there will probably be a culling of the brands over the next several years, it appears the market has peaked and may be starting to wane. In those conditions the weak brands who have not established themselves may fall by the wayside. But as Dargo points out, I beleive Mahindra is one brand that will stick around. They have substantial sales, probably double or triple the sales of brands like Kioti and perhaps 8 to 10 times the sales of brands like Montana. They have a wide product selection with gear and HST tractors in HP ranges that exceed all the other minor brands and that compare favorably with the "big 3" brands. They also have both AG and CUT tractors, as well as a very large company backing, which makes them unique among the minor brands. So with all those very good things, then the only logical conclusion I come to is that your dealer is your problem. If there is another dealer near you, then I would strongly consider trading in to another dealership.
