The operator was very skilled, as you can tell by how close we are to the bucket. About 50 yards of stone was spread that day!

As we added stone around the perforated drainage pipe, we added landscape fabric to keep the sand from getting into the stone. Then backfilled with sand on top of the fabric. You can see the different layers in this action shot of the backfill taking place.

( ...... The walls are almost 10' tall, so I can have a basement overhead door of 8'6" so my tractor can drive in and out without lowering the rops. )

If it isn't too late to consider a higher door, I would reconsider the 8'6". A 10' door with the low headroom track will fit into the plans and will make your life easier should you ever get something bigger in the future, such as a small dump truck. I know, because I had a 8' door and when I did some remodeling, I changed it out for a 10' door. My garage measures 10' floor to ceiling. The larger door will not cost that much more and the framing is the same. I doubt that you will spend $200 difference between the 8'6" door and a 10' door. Go for the largest door that will fit the opening! You will never regret a larger door, but you might regret a smaller door.

Junkman, good point on the door. It was originally only 8' and then I bumped it to 8'6" to fit my tractor. But I'll take your advice and measure and install the highest I can get, allowing for 12" of overhead door operating clearance.

Here is a picture of my 10' door partially open. As you can see, the door operator is mounted directly to the ceiling and the track is down about 12" from the ceiling. The door uses torsion spring for opening. My doors are insulated steel. The company that I used is very good, but I don't know if they go as far as the Cape. They are located near Hartford CT.

Here's a photo of the deck being constructed. Setting a big 36' long 7x14 versalam beam that will support the floor joists. You can see the bucket truck down below.

Here we are with all deck beams in place, and ready for putting in the joists and subfloor.

Here's the floor joists half installed. Using a 14" TJI joist, and a 3/4" AdvanTech subfloor that is glued, nailed and screwed down.

Deck is all completed, and a little work tent constructed on it to protect tools from the rain. Ready for the timber frame to arrive -- being cut in Loudon NH mostly out of eastern white pine.
