My apologies! The past 3 weeks have been 12 hour days as the 6 man timber framing crew from New Hampshire has been working hard to put up the frame and then add the Structural Insulated Panels. In addition to being one of the "crew", I've been running to the lumber yard for materials such as 2x4's, etc. as well as figuring cutouts for doors, windows, elec wiring, etc etc.

Here's the E and W eave walls starting to be assembled on the deck, waiting for the crane to show up to raise them.

A closeup of the joinery: a mortise (on a main wall post) and tenon (on a horizontal wall girt) going together.

Here's the major frame pieces all ready to be raised. E and W walls completely assembled on the deck, and king and queen posts on the ground nearby, where the crane can easily reach them.

I am truly green with envy. Timberframing is something I'd love to do.

Besides the quality of the joinery I think I like the concept of all the preparation. The getting there being as much fun as the actual arrival if you will.

Harv... How would you be able to cut those joints with a torch ??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's another shot of part of the complex. I started off with rough cut cedar beams and just got after it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bebster I have no idea what you think I could do that you can't get done locally not only better but more reasonable in price.

If I ever get the chance I would love to come by for a visit to see what you've got going. It does look like a ton of fun.

I have plenty of work locally. And more importantly, I have family and friends here close that kinda sorta keep me busy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It seems almost every day something will be said or done that makes me pinch myself for being so lucky with friends and family.

I was talking to a friend yesterday and we were talking about how great it is when your best friends are old friends. There's something reassuring when you consider those that know you best like you the most and vice versa.

Sorry for the drifting off into sentimental land. I just got off the phone with two of my favoritest TBN'rs out on the west coast and still have the warm fuzzies.

Do keep sharing the photos. And if you see something a little greener than the surrounding stuff think of me being jealous. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Harv, is watching the president speak on TV a good enough excuse? Actually, my digital camera fell, and broke, and I had to order a new one. (unfortunately that's the truth). But it gave me a chance to get a newer model with more pixels. But my next installment will come from some photos taken by one of the timberframe crew's camera.

I'll promise to get another installment of action photos off this week. In the meantime, here's a photo at the end of the first day of raising timbers. We got the 2 long walls up, and the main posts, along with some of the connecting horizontal timbers. Passed my wife's inspection with flying colors.

It's been a week and a half. I guess Bebster has moved into the barn and it's so warm and cozy that he's forgotten all about getting that camera and all his buds he's left hanging in TBN land. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Have a heart, borrow a camera, take pictures, tell us about it.

Please! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Harv, now I'm feeling really guilty. So here's another installment. This is a photo of the ridge beam being hoisted into position by the crane.

The ridge beam fits snugly into position with a little persuasion from the sledge hammer.

Some rafters needed to be strapped and them cranked into place before they'd seat into the mortise. Sign of a nice tight fit.
