I had a bad experience last night with a L35 that I rented. Luckily I'm ok. I posted about it in detail in the safety section. Here's a link to the post if you'd like to read it http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/s...33#post1416833

It seems all of the safety devices on this tractor was missing, damaged or disabled. I own a Massey and I'm not that familiar with the Kubotas so I was wondering what this L35 should have from the factory. It's listed for sale on the rental company website as a 2000 model, serial number is 8310.
1. There is no safety belt. I know it had that from the factory.
2. Should there be a stop on the seat rails to keep it from sliding off the tracks seperating from the mount?
3. Do the factory seats have a kill switch in the seat?
4. If there is supposed to be a kill switch would the switch kill the engine when the shuttle shifter is moved out of the neutral position (into forward or reverse?) I didn't do this but theoretically would it be possible to stand beside the tractor, put it in gear and let it run along without someone on it?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
John

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. So with the stop on your seat does that make it impossible for the seat to come off the tracks on the rotating part of the mount with actually removing the stop? Or can the seat be pulled off by lifting the bar that allows you to adjust it forwards and backwards? Thanks again, John

I've yet to see a seat that will slide out of the rails when sold new from the factory on a tractor!
On number four- there are many tractors that you can actually do it and have been made for years that way. They are fast changing as the manufacturers are being sued and are in litagation over this. On many tractors built today they have added operator present switches to keep those that don't know enough to stay out from under the tires.

Things have changed a lot over the last years as to who is responsible for an individuals actions. With the manufacturers being held reponsible by our bar association I've watched the price of some machines over the past years jump as more then twenty percent with the addition of the idiot gear for safety. I guess it's just another part of our socialistic system.

Some of these safety switches are an inconvience at times and down right dangerous at other times. I had a neighbor with a BX24 fairly late model. He was having problems starting it. Turns out the neutral lockout switch was not engaging allowing the engine to start. I found about five safety switches on his machine, two on the seat. I don't really understand why you would need or want a seat shutoff switch. Just standing up or shifting your weight will kill the engine and maybe put you into a dangerous situation.

Consumer product safety laws... somewhere.. some time.. someone likely sued somebody cuz they did something, probably stupid... so no there is a liability warning and safety switch.. etc.. etc..

ever see that label on your push lawnmower deck telling you not to pick it up from the sides to cut hedges with it... think they pulled that one out of thin air?
