Some people don't realize just how massive some of these mountains are. They are huge.
Back in the day when a young buck that slope didn't seem as formidable as it does today. 😱

Yeah, we've been to the Appalachians several times.... then we went to the Rockies. WOW! No comparison. (y)
On my first trip to the east coast, I took a shuttle to get to my destination, I forget in which state, and the driver kept mentioning the Appalachian Mountains. After a while I asked when we would see them. He cursed at me and said that we have been driving past them for the last 1/2 hour.

I was driving past some factories yesterday and several had dozens of Canada geese on their lawns (nothing new), but I noticed 1 snow goose in a group of them. Couldn't stop to take photo, but it's the first time I've ever seen one alone in a group of Canada geese. I've only seen one flock of snow geese around here in my entire life.

A long shot and I can’t get a picture of it, but the best I can describe it is the coloring is like a house sparrow, but no white on the breast. The coloring is very similar though otherwise but it’s much larger, roughly the size of a Cardinal. It’s vaguely similar to a Catbird but the coloring and tail is wrong. This is Western Illinois about 40 miles east of the Iowa Missouri border. Any bird experts have an idea?

How about this?

That’s it. I’ve looked at a bunch of pictures and I guess the pictures were of a male maybe. I was thinking Catbird but got it confused with Cowbird. Thanks for nailing that one down for me, it was bugging me every time I saw one.

WOW. Never seen trees like that. Seen plenty of iced over trees and snow covered. I always thought the snow sloughed off when it got too much on them, or broke the limbs in the event of ice.

Cool shot

Cowbird's are the only birds that we really don't like seeing. They show up and drive off all the other birds at our feeders.
