I thought all 749's had a 3PH, that was why I suggested that.

We have no plans for a pull type as of now.

I need a good aerator and agree that the 36" behind an x749 is a good way to go. I use the 3ph on my x749 frequently for lawn maintenance and try to keep my 110 and 4520 off of the lawn as much as possible. I use a pine straw rake for cleanup 72" very frequently and is one of the reasons I bought the little machine.

What are the advantages of the gang style over the drum?

The one with the independent wheels will allow you to make turns. The drum style will require weight to be added to the top which will raise your center of gravity. The one with the independent wheels will has the weight built in and will keep the center of gravity lower than the other style. I have had an core aerator for over a year now and i think it has helped my yard tremendously. They also help smooth your yard. If I was going to buy an aerator for a SCUT it would be this one. The width is approx. 31" from outside of spoon to outside of spoon.
Overall dimensions is 44" W x 36" D x 36" H
Roger gave a good explanation of gang style vs. drum. Our drum style is heavier than most because they have heavy frames and they're filled with sand at the factory.
We use the high quality, US made galvanized spoons on both styles.

Thanks Roger and Travis. So the only thing I am gaining by going to the EA gang style is the ability to turn while the aerator is on the ground?

And by going with the drum I would be gaining 10" of spoon to spoon width which would make aerating 5 acres just a little faster.

Do I have that right? Oh and the EA drum weighs 80 lbs less

I bought the 36 inch model this Fall 2014 and it is a beast that did an incredible job - I put 50 pounds on the front of my BX2360 and ran over my 2 acres of grass in no time at all - machine is well built, heavy, sturdy and cuts plugs like a charm. I am a real fan of these guys and trying to give them credit for an awesome product where I can. My soil here in Lancaster PA is really a pretty heavy brown clay and the aerator had no problem pulling up big plugs whether area was wet or dry. I did my homework and this 36 inch product was the clear winner.

That is a nice piece of equipment. Aeration really helps your lawn.
