Any ideas? My deer are thirsty.

One should never underestimate the power of water! You will not be able to stop the water from going underground. If it ain't broken don't fix it. The deer are quite capable of caring of themselves.

If you somehow divert it from going underground, where will it go? You say across your property, and maybe to a pond you make etc.. but then where?
It's going to run 24/7 and has to go somewhere.
Well downhill of course, but if on top of ground won't somebody downhill, now downstream, wonder where this new stream / pond/ swamp came from?

Could be an underground cavern that it's diving into. You're in that neck of the woods where caverns, sinkholes etc. are not at all uncommon due to lots of limestone. Careful you don't open a hole and go falling in. LOL You could put some dye in it where it disappears and see where and if it comes out and now long it takes to get there.

When I bought our property 25+ years ago there was a creek running through the center but it dried up and went under ground. The next spring I started at the top and cleaned out the whole creek bed from one end to the other approx. a mile. Anything that would restrict the flow I removed. I do this process every few years to deal with downed trees and anything else that may restrict. As a result the creek has never quit flowing on the surface since and I have a couple ponds on it as well.

You need to understand, you own the land, BUT...the gubberment owns the water. You are treading into dangerous territory when you mess around with Uncle Sam's waterways.

See Waters of the US.

But. What happens when one lays say a 6 or 8 inch pipe in it. Above where it disappears and for say 100 feet down stream. Will the water stay on top of the ground. You are not diverting the creek. Just borrowing some water for your uses. May have to clean out a small pool. Only use natural materials no concrete.

If the water is not coming back up on your land, it is coming up on someone's land. (or flowing underground to a river) They may not be too happy when their spring stops flowing. The spring may not be in the same channel as the surface water would flow.

I was watching the other day about a program that takes place in Florida, there is a organization that has cave divers with GPS swim the underground caverns and map them out, they go above ground with GPS and mark them out as well, if there right under a business or home they let the owners know they have a network of caves under there property, if they have permission they go and do a sonar reading to see how deep down the caverns are and what the odds of a sink hole is for that owner.

Some people absolutely get screwed by this and by a property that starts sinking and it's unsellable after that.

So my thought of trying to alter a underground source could be devastating elsewhere, a full cave is relatively structurally sound, once it starts to drain or collapse, sink holes form and that makes property value almost non existent.

That same program showed a underground salt vain they were brining and bring to the surface to process for salt, long story short they got too close the the wall of the vain and collapsed a wall creating a massive sink hole that literally made trees disappear, like a giant quick sand pit that collapses on itself and there is no escape if your caught in it.

Underground caves and caverns is nothing to fool around with.

hey you could be lucky , you may find a new set of caverns on your property bigger than Luray caverns .

Now I have heard of a dye they put in the water and then they wait to see where the dye appears .
