Tres Crow, thanks for making me laugh. The only thing better than a neat freak is a pig like me. Believe me, I can play Oscar to your Felix any day. I've always admired neat people, just always been too darn lazy to emulate them. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You know, I have nearly gone crazy over the years over the darndest little things. As I have gotten older I find that such things are increasingly less important to me--that is comparitive--still I am pretty darn much a neat freak /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. What is important is enjoying the time God gave us and our families. While I don't agree with the book title "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff--Everything is Small Stuff" (adlib) because some things are not small stuff /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif but a little rust on the three point balls is small stuff. Don't let this ruin the fun you are going to have with that tractor. J

A couple points:

This is not brand specific. If a tractor sits in the sales yard for a couple months, there will be rust on it. The tractor will get some scratches during shipment or at the yard as they move it around and those spots will rust. Any where water can sit will tend to rust.

Bewere of any chemicals you may be storing in your garage even if you think they are in air tight containers. Pool chemicals can turn metal stored in the same room into a pile of rust in just a month or two. Salt for your driveway can have an adverse effect too, albeit not as dramatic.

Finally, it may also be that you've gotten an especially poorly painted tractor. It happens with all brands once in a while, just like it can happen with a car every once in a while. I think you should ask you dealer about it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up on that one.

Oh, I guess that was three points.

Actually you may have two problems, well one problem and one issue. The rust issue sounds run of the mill and typical across the board. Wait till you use the loader bucket, box scraper or a mower. The rust will only get worse. Those long winter months will surely impart it's oxidating powers on your accessories.

Three+ years ago, when I first walked up to 'my' BX on the dealer's lot, the FIRST thing I noticed was the rusty steering tie rod ends.... I think others noticed that too. Seemed out of place on such a nice machine, didn't stop me from buying it, and hasn't gotten any worse. Still.. they could do something about that.

At least rust is orange!

Seriously, I've always used rust preventive sprays of various types liberally on all kinds of outdoor equipment and seldom have rust problems. But I wouldn't bother on working surfaces like bucket edges, box blade rippers, etc. I'm mostly concerned about fasteners and such.

I'm not getting rust like you describe, and wonder if the ocean trip, i.e. salt spray, could lead to some of that rust problem you have?

But, regardless, I did run across this site
http://www.por15.com/
but have no experience with their product, POR15
Anyone else know about it?

It seems most are missing the point. The ability of a bucket to rust
is a designed-in indicator used to call attention to long periods of
dormancy. Should this happen, a few hours spent digging in your
favorite medium will polish things up quite nicely.

Well, I did get the point and admittedly was being a bit sarcastic. The rust issues mentioned seemed rather trivial and not unusual. If the tin was rusting away, that would be one thing, rust on a lower link or ball joint is not so cancerous and easily resolved.

I don't use my boxblade too often. The dealer I purchased it from said to put a light spray of diesel fuel on it to ward off rust. It seems to work ok, but I still have rust spots.
