C'mon guys. I know that a FEL bucket is going to get the paint rubbed off and is going to rust. Same with the heim joint balls on the 3 point, disheartening as it was to see them all rusty when I went to pick up my brand new tractor.

Look at the pics in the post about wiring up a work light though. Two different tractors, and both with well established rust around welds...and that's under the seat where they are protected. That's what I'm talking about. Appears to me that Kubota isn't getting all the flux off their welds before painting or not doing any surface prep or something. I also seem to be seeing evidence of no primer, just final coat shot on bare metal, and then just wherever it happened to land, if it missed the undersides of things, so be it.

I too would be interested to see if anybody has used this "rust neutralizer". I'm going to order a small amount and see if it does the trick on my Meyer snow plow...I'll try to remember to post something about it here when I see the results.

After seing the 'heim' joint the second time in your posts, I started wondering if it wasn't a typo, and looked it up. Sure learned a new term, and never did know there was a specific term for that 'ball' in the end of the top arm and lift arms. Thanks for the education.
I would not be pleased with what you are finding with the paint. Good luck.

I've got paint peeling off my fel receiver in sheets. It is happening around the area where it gets knocked by the fel during removal and re-attachment. As you say, it's like they did no surface prep and I don't see any evidense of primer either.

Oh, I also am seeing this on my leaf vac brackets for the mmm but have yet to find any problems on the actual tractor.

The paint missing from the balls of the 3 pt arms I think is a catch 22. I seem to remember a thread where people were complaining that the balls wouldn't move due to paint making attaching an implement difficult until it all got worn off.

2 1/2 years after purchase and I still look forward to mowing the lawn!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not all paint process involve primers as such. Some industrial paints do not use a primer, just a surface prep. There are several primers on the market that are essentially clear and contain a metal prep and surface stabilizer and an etch. Powder coating also may not have a conventional primer. I just had a motorcycle frame done--no primer and where I had put primer on it that blasted it off.
Hmmm, I think you should sell that rust bucket. For reference, both of my tractors appear fully painted, top and bottom and the paint seems quite tenacious on the loader and boxblade considering what they do. Since your tractor has not been painted to your satisfaction you probably have a problem you will never be satisfied with. Too bad. J

Probably should...but it's so dang rusty nobody would buy it, ha, ha.

You act like I'm being overly picky, but I paid almost as much for this tractor as I paid for my Audi A6, and I certainly think one should get better quality for that much money.

If I was in business or something and just "used and abused" the tar out of it and got rid of it when it no longer worked, wrote it off as a business expense, and got a new one, it would be different. To the contrary, I bought this thing to be the last tractor I ever buy. I gotta make it last.

Man, you should have no problem doing that. I can't believe that any of the things you have mentioned so far will turn into a real problem, no way. Unless you fail to service it or just leave it out in the rain you have a 20 year machine there.
I am moving soon and plan to invest in a 12 x 20 outbuilding
just for my BX2230. ( I may put a TV and an easy chair too )

On my car, I have any chips, scratches, or rust removed and repainted. My tractor is a year old and I will never spend the money to paint any of the scratches. It is a tool, not a car. I could buy 5 tractors for what my car cost, so it is more important to me.. I am also certain that my tractor will outlive my car no matter how well I take care of both of them. I put 10,000 miles on the car in a year and less than 100 hours a year on the tractor. The tractor gets a garage, which the car doesn't. It shares a garage with my old car...(a permanent resident of the garage).... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
