I was testing my decom CGM's when I first started using them, but quit. One time I adjust it up a few points, next time if would be down a few points. So what was the point? Its plenty accurate enough.

labs this week came back with glucose at 85 and AIC unchanged at 6.1
and this was with me forgetting to fast and eating a yogurt that morning, oops.
all my other labs reasonably in range
realistically I'm 30 pounds overweight and that we all know creates its own problems.
I'd like to get out of the yellow range on AIC
I have to take medically prescribed steroids every day and endocrinologist said no way was I losing
weight taking that stuff.
I can use that as an excuse or...I can try to walk more.
unfortunately having real hip and back problems and walking any distance simply hurts.

so if I can't burn it off well enough, really need to eat less.

Daugen I was/am in your situation almost exactly. My hips get sore enough that I quit walking so save myself for work as I need to earn a living too.

This summer I went and helped a friend build a deck above his boat lift. It involved a lot of climbing scaffolds and stairs as his house is about 30 feet above water level. I was very sore for a few days and then the arthritis in my hips started hurting less. By the end of 12 days I weighed 6 lbs less and hurt considerably less. It's fall and I'm still enjoying those benefits.

Overall in the last 4 years I've lost approximately 25 lbs just by eating less. I really haven't made any other changes. I do weigh myself every morning just to keep track of which way the scale is going.

I aim to keep myself within a range of weight rather than see the scale drop a little every day. The range will be stagnant for several months and then all of a sudden I'm down another 5 lbs. I'm happy with that. I didn't gain the weight all at once and I'm not going to loose it all at once. I've been there and then seem to gain it back+ very quickly.

Good luck in loosing weight!!

When I worked at the hospital our dietician had several diabetes support group meetings. They were free and had good information. Often one of the doctors would give a presentation and answer questions. The dietician helped with nutrition plans. If your insurance covers counseling sessions with a dietician I highly recommend it. It may take a referral from your PCP.

Ive been using chat gpt to meal plan to hit my macros and calorie counts this past week. To have a balanced diet, well, most people are on high fat and high carb diets, let me put it that way.

I eat less and feel full, because my macros are balanced. It's easy to over eat crap, because crap doesn't trigger your body to feel full. I'm 145 pounds, but in the winter I get a lot less activity, so what I eat and how much I eat, matters a lot more.

I had some tires replaced yesterday, and this lady walked into the shop, a husky girl, young... With a large soda, fried nuggets from chik fil a and dipping sauce. In my mind I thought, there is almost no possible way to get your diet to balance the rest of the day, after eating that... And some people will eat like that TWICE per day. In the US especially, we have been slowly lulled to sleep, and consume crap, consistently, without a second thought. Even the things we "think" are healthy, are crap.

As of this past Friday my A1C is down .4 and my weight down 20#'s. For the past several months I've been good, I reduced my intake and increased my exercise. Having a new rescue dog keeps me moving.

my AIC stayed at 6.1 last month
holidays bad news for sugar, I tell friends no cookies but they still show up

   / Diabetes #873
Had A1C test early Oct., 6.0. Has been 5.9-6.2 for almost 4 years. I am so thankful I could stop the daily insulin and metformin just by diet and exercise. Sticking to low carb and low sugar foods and walking 23-25 miles/wk keeps me off the meds.

My sons a1c went to 8.9 this last visit. Looking through the online notes dr just keeps saying the same thing over and over. Dose for every meal. Same basic things my son has quit doing for the most part. According to his tandem he averaging maybe 1 meal a day. And turned off his ciq so he was just getting back ground insulin and not having the pump automatically controlling insulin.

that doesn't sound healthy LHF, hope your son figures out what works for him.
ultimately we are have to take responsibility for our own health but hard to watch someone you love
not take care of themselves

Arly, I've been told I have osteophytes or spurs in my left hip. Only way to fix it is a new hip socket.
I can't walk more than 2000 steps without hurting. At 4000 have to sit down. It is what it is until I'm willing
to get new parts. But no, it's been hard for me to walk in last three months.
Back surgeon said my back so bad, so much damage, he wouldn't operate. So I'm thinking do I want a new hip when the
neighborhood is already a wreck...
Thankfully last week's lower back epidural helped.
I'm just an old race horse getting drugged up enough to get out into the field... ;)

yesterday was quite a test
all those pies laid out, all saying eat me
the pumpkin pies were store bought gluten free due to one person and frankly
they looked pretty bad. So I took a small forkful of apple pie and a small scoop of vanilla
ice cream and I departed the dessert table before I got into more trouble.

it really would have been interesting to plot out yesterday on a CGM
thankfully I ended the evening with hot tea which settled my stomach a little after several glasses of wine
and too much food.

as with many of you this morning, the idea of more food right now is not appealing...
think I'll make it a yogurt and blueberry morning.

I think I'll have a piece of Pecan Pie for breakfast.

there was a big pecan pie there also last night.
host cut into it and a piece reluctantly came out, all gooey and sticky.
I wonder if your glucose can go up just by visual stimulation... ;)

Interesting question! I was curious, too, and after poking around a bit, apparently there is an "anticipatory response" to seeing food that does cause rises in blood sugar.
Learn something new every day.

Personally, I feel as if I'm getting a blood sugar spike just thinking about pecan pie. I used to love them, until I cooked one and realized just how much sugar, in one form or another, goes into a pecan pie.

Quiet day yesterday, but got to try out the new oven, which literally has an automated "convection turkey roast" mode. Talk about idiot proof. The convection oven did shave about 1/3 or more off of the roasting time. We are late to the modern oven party. Our prior one was fifty years old, and while it worked, was less than efficient. Afterwards, I made stock with the carcass.

Yesterday, our dog was rewarded with a few scraps of turkey, and decided that she's willing to do anything, just ask, anything for more turkey, so it looks like we have a new tool in the dog training repertoire. (Yay!)

I think that today will be a wait and see day.

All the best,

Peter
