For the past 5 or 6 tanks of fuel in the Kubota I have used a mixture of Power Service and Marvel Mystery Oil. I buy my fuel in five gallon containers and add 3 oz. of Power Service and 6 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil to the container before filling it with diesel fuel.

I have made no effort to see if I can measure any difference but the engine seems to run better.

Maybe you didn't read the link I provided earlier in this thread where independent testing showed Marvel Mystery Oil made diesel fuel lubricating properties WORSE:eek: Won't catch me putting it in MY diesel fuel- ever

Wow! Everything from perscription drugs to herd management! Two questions, do you add the drugs to the fuel tank before or after putting fuel in, and how old does the cow have to be before it is ready to be converted into fuel?

As far as fuel additives go with the new ULSD I wondered about the current fuel conditioners and their effectivness at providing all that is necessary for lubricating what the fuel is not now. I have always used Power Service formulated for winter anti-gelling year round.

You should check out Powerkleen arctic for winter treatments and regular powerkleen for warmer month diesel fuel additives, they are made by hydrotex. Essentualube is also a great product for adding lubrication to the ULSD that has been robbed of the much needed lubrication. It cleans your engine unbelievably well also. They also make an oil stabilizer called lubrakleen, but if you buy their hyfilm engine oil you don't need the oil stabilizer. Hydrotex hydrotreats and hydrocracks their basestocks which releases impurities therefore allowing the additives you are paying for to bond with the oil molecules better. This results in an oil that is far superior and increases the life and quality of the oil. I usually average around 50k between oil change intervals with their hyfilm 15w-40, but i also utilize oil analysis to determine the life of the oil. It saves a ton of time and money for me, you may want to check their products out.

its funny how people worry about adding something to the fuel.

I suppose if fuel needed something added to it, the refiner already did it.
unless in some cases you got a specific problem like water or algae, leave it alone

I agree and to top it all off, adds like Power Service etc show up in elevated # in UOA too.

Please explain what in Power Service shows up in a UOA. Never heard of or seen that in a UOA:cool:

I have many times. They are high wear metals. Just like Amsoil Pi does the samething or most fuel adds that clean good; show up in oil testing.

Ok got ya;) I have seen high wear metals, primarily lead, from diesel additives...you implied the Power Service itself showed up in the UOA, and that I've not seen anyone detect.:D

The question is- how high is too high? I see elevated lead in my oil analysis when running Power Service and confirmed it when I went an oil change interval without it and lead came down. The question no one has been able to answer is how much lead indicates a problem. Obviously lead from wear is a problem but lead from chemical leaching may or may not be...

In any case I'm on my last jug of Power Service, after 160,000 miles of using it- I'm switching to about a B1 to B2 mix for lubrication. I finally located a place to buy pure B100 which I'll use as an additive myself.

Depends. The oil testing place should tell you or if not, look at your old UOA's. I know Power service in my Powerstroke was way to high and I stopped using it and back to normal. That is why I have disliked PS for years. But problem is people think it is all great when they do not look in this area. Then again, most times you do not need it. I have not used it for years at -17 F.

The way I look at it, if you have higher #'s from an add, stop using it.

You migh have high iron, Mag, lead etc. Depends on the fuel add.

Well how about the loss of lubricity in the ULSD. Do you not feel that that is a problem that may require an additive?

I know you didn't ask me, but what the heck.

No, I do not not add anything to the diesel fuel I buy. Lubricity, as near as I can tell, is not an issue. If there is an issue with ULSD that might require an additive, it is the apparently higher gelling temperatures that caused so many people grief last winter. Knock on wood, I did not use any additives last winter and had no problems, but I always seek out what I know to be winterized (blended) fuel.
