Tires Diff between R1 and R4 tires?

I know that picture well!! Last time I was stuck like that was in my wet clay area that I should have known better, but tried anyway. Ended up high and dry, or wet should I say Had to drag it out with the excavator....should have been using that anyway, but I also knew it was available (part of the problem I guess). R-1's wouldn't have helped me as when you cut through you're all done. Live and learn I guess.

Hmmm, I was figuring it was just a matched set on the tractor and a matched set on the duels. Maybe there is a reason for that, which obviously I have no clue why??

Because the set of tires used for duals were probably far cheaper than the oem's on the tractor.

I realize it was put forth in the spirit of levity and I responded in kind. But to be serious if only for a moment, I like the looks of both. One of the problems, if you would call it that is that many people get really skinny Ags. I am certainly no expert on tires, but I like a wide tire. I realize for some applications a narrow tire is essential.

Since this is a tire thread, maybe you can answer a question for me. I notice that the tread is different between the main tires and the duels. Is this just a manufacturer thing or is there a purpose for the different spacing of the lugs/bars?(

Lug spacing and angle are chosen to give best traction characteristics in the soil type range they are made for. With fewer lugs you have more intense pressure to bite into and thus interlock with hard ground. With more lugs you have more biting edges, more contact surface. There are applications for both strategies. The choice on those duals may have just been what was available or the owner may have conciously chosen the different pattern to have a bit of the benefits of both. :confused3:

Pictures of the pond now under several feet of water. I didn't get as many as I wanted especially of the slicks and tractor in trenches 4'-5' deep with the fram grounded.
