There is no correlation between pistons and rings and oil pressure. I doubt your oil pump is cavitating.

hahh you are 100% right bob but the bearings being new will, I am not wanting to do it but i guess im gonna have to drop the pan, but I cant see why 65psi is too much others are running well over that, could i just have a week ck valve ?

Yes, a weak spring is possible. And what's to break in on a bearing insert? They are either correct or not. :)

My Oil is old that is in it today, it was running right around 90c and at 500RPM is was steady at 20psi and at 1400 RPM it was right around 35psi.

here couple pics of dash was well warmed up and took 2 pics idle and 1400rpm

well guys i didnt get to work on the tractor today, yesterday my 85 yr old dad had to be taken to the er and then to top off a great day there ( my parents) water heater blew a seam so early this morning after dropping my sone off at school I had to go install a new water heater for my parents, but i did make a great score today, my wifes sisters son works for AC delco and he got me 2 new batts well they call them blems, they were new but set on a sales rack for 2 months, they both are small and thats great for the tractor one is 550cca and the other is 650cca they only take up about 1/4 the size of the front of the rad, the deep cycle one I had in there took over half the rad frontage so it should help in cooling, plus free is allways great

I hope your compression release works. This vintage diesel design typically needs a 750 CCA or greater. Starting type battery too, not deep cycle. What made you put that type in there? Or is that another original owner gaff?

Hi Greg hahahah well the deep cycle went in there cause it was what was on hand when the tractor came home, I have 2 everstart max group 29 deep cycle marine batts for running my trolling motor on my boat, so i threw one in, and as for the smaller batts I got yesterday, well thats what I told my nephew I needed, the y85 eng book says to use a 550cca batt, plus I wanted as small as i could get to free up the front of the rad for cooling

/ dongfeng tractor with y385t wont start help #287
You should be okay with that 550cca battery since you live where it doesn't usually get too cold. Down here in the topics I can crank my 304 engine with a 500cca battery, no problem. That said, I do have an 850cca battery in it since I want the additional capacity to run lights and inverter at times.

If you were farther north, I'd worry that the 550cca battery would let you down when cold.

yea rich the book said 550 but i put the 650 in the tractor is was smaller then the 550 I got and when my nephew put it on his batt tester it came up around 688cci so i should be good, in sw fla its allways hotter then 80 deg out well we migh get a few days in feb when it will hit the mid 40s if we are lucky, but in my metal barn were the tractor will live its allways over 80 because of the sun hitting it, today it was 91 deg outside and in the barn it was 118, and i used my lazer temp gauge from harbor freight to test it hahaha, I didnt even hook up the glow plugs on the tractor because ive never used them on any of my tractors, I did have a 853 bobcat that was all computerised and if it was a cool morning it would use its heat grid for about 5 to 10 sec but all of my other diesels just fire and go

Yeah, I never have used my glow plugs - I don't even know if they're hooked up or not. The lowest temperature ever recorded here was 64°F.

well i have some good news I think, I just got my temp gauge and volt gauge in and the new batt installed and also a new thermostat, it was a 71c and a 72 came out of the tractor, but a 71c was all i could find, the tractor runs at around 170 to 175 deg, when warmed up at 900rpm it was 33psi oil pressure and 175% at 1500rpm it was 48psi and 170% and at 2200rpm it was 65psi and 172%, it still did that valve pressure drop thing when it tryed to go over 65psi but I would have to be hitting almost 2400rpm, that made me feel so good I went out and bought myself a nice new echo srm 225 strait shaft weed wacker from the home depot

I'm not an expert but that sounds pretty good to me. How does it drive?

My experience and observation, from my own tractor and reading about others, is that if you have good cooling and oil pressure there's nothing that can go wrong with these engines. If you don't have good cooling and oil pressure everything can go wrong.

well im at my whitts end, took the tractor out and it ran fine for about 200yrds then i make a turn and go up a little rise nothing really not even a tiny hill maby 3ft climp over 20ft and it wants to sound like its loading up and sputters down and dies, I try to crank it up and the eng sounds tight ( slow turning) then I wait about 1 min and it fires up again so back to the barn it goes, guys im at a loss im about ready to throw in the towel

When it "splutters and dies" unscrew the fuel filter. My guess is that you'll find it empty. If not, next possibility is that IP is timed incorrectly

hey greg im gonna do that, i just went out and drained the oil, pulled the drive shaft dropped the oil pan and pulled the rod bolts and looked at the bearings they looked very good they were not squashed and shinny on the sides, and i re-installed per my book at 68 ft lbs, (I had them at 80 before) my screen for my oil pickup had a bunch of crap on it so i cleaned it also, got it almost all put back together but i have to go back out and put the oil back in it and tighten up the driveshaft center support,

i think i have a blown head gasket, this last time around i thought i smelled that cooking antifreeze smell but my temp was good, and i looked and saw bubbles comming into the catch tank (bottle), im too pooped to do a comp test but ill do one tomorrow, I cant see how i screwed up that gasket but i guess stranger things have happened, o and after cleaning off the oil pump screen now the pump starts out cold at 70psi

gene i wrote out a big spew of things but deleted it because i didnt want to sound like an a s s , but no I dont judge the performance of a diesel tractor to a gas powered car in any way, and yes gene it does this in any gear it just holds on a little bit longer in the lowest of low gear, and i live in sw florida its flat everywere here, what i call a rise to you up north would be called flat, my oil pressure and water temp are great I just dont have power, but thank you for the input

hey greg im going to try that tomorrow before i take the head off and look at the gasket, I hope i find a dry filter
