here are the parts i cut out of plate to be the teeth, i was surprised that i was cutting for so long the oxygen regulator got a good deal of frost on it. the two end plates are shaped a little different so they are welded on like endcaps for the tube

the next step was to start making the plates that will go on the top of the uprights to make the connection to the top of the dozer blade, for pins i am using an inch and a half diameter piece of old hydraulic cylinder rod, this picture is me boring the holes in the plates with our old horizontal milling machine, not as nice as the mill i use at work but perfectly fine for home shop work

here is a closeup of the boring head mounted in the horizontal spindle, someone added a mount for an early style bridgeport verticle head on the overarm of the machine, most of the time i use that but for heavy work and large diameter holes i usualy use the horizontal spindle if the shape of the workpiece allows it

Couple things:, first its a great effort and the pictures tell a good story. I was wondering what welder your using/rods/amps, etc. as the welds really look heavy duty. Also you need to visit at the "RedPower" site (IH/Farmalls) as IH dozers are quite the ticket there. They would love to see some of the pics/history, etc. Neet job!! PS, I'm interested as I am starting to learn how to weld, just picked up a 251NT Trailblazer a couple of weeks ago and have a couple of Farmalls to boot.....

Funny that no matter how cluttered the shop gets you always know where everything is! My beautiful wife did me a 'favor' a couple weeks ago and 'straightend up' my work bench... now I can't find anything!

Great job on fabricating, nice looking welds like that make me envious.

the welder i have is a lincoln idealare 500/500 ac/dc machine, im not sure exactly what the 500 means tho since the amperage goes all the way up to a bit over 600 amps, however in our garage we only have 100 amp service and the welder for max output requires 150 amps in at 220 single phase, so right now its just on a 100 amp breaker in the panel, but i have rarely used it over about 300 anyhow. the welder i had bought when i was 15 years old, it was at a tag sale for two hundred bucks, but the amperage adjustment was stuck, so at the end of the day i offered them 100 bucks and they said sure, so we loaded it in my fathers nissan and took it home, it was way overloaded for his little truck!! a few hours with penetrating oil and i had the thing working great. i will post some pictures of it tonight, its nothing fancy but it sure is heavy duty, oh and to answer the other question i was using 7014 and 7018 rod in some places both 5/32 dia with about a 180 to 200 amps, most of the welds were done in 3 passes, and so far i have over 25 lbs of rod into this project
