This seems like an auction in which neither is willing to "loose".

I had forgot about the standing up part.

Kind of back to the original question - the gear transmission is easier to work on. Have had brother-in-law's gear drive Kubota apart multiple times to replace broken parts - no gears yet, just shift linkage pieces breaking - and 2 guys can have it pretty well completely lying on the floor in a couple hours. Finding where the broken pieces end up is the biggest time killer. Have not yet had to tear into our hydros. Unless you feather the lurch (wear), the loading is abrupt whereas the hydro takes time for the swash plate to move so the load on the power train is automatically feathered.

I've been following TBN threads since 2001 and there just isn't any significant number of HST transmission failures. There was an L48 that had a bad control valve recently but the actual hydro pump/motor package was apparently OK. I figure keeping the hyd fluid full, fresh and clean is job #1, probably next is avoiding overheating from using it in an abusive manner.

There are a lot of hydrostatic systems in equipment these days... powersteering, drivetrains on combines, payloaders, the list goes on and on. Hydro was newfangled technology in the 1960's but today it's totally mainstream and very reliable. As a drivetrain, it's one choice available, has its good and bad points. Reliability is actually more a strong point in its favor.

That is how a hydro works. You are telling me you have never had to let off the forward pedal when climbing a hill? Do you go everywhere in first range?

Ask every HST owner on this forum when your HST tractor starts to bog you have to let up as needed on the forward pedal. Again unless you have a feature like auto throttle like on the HST +. I am done with this discussion.

If you're done, why are you asking me more questions?

Dude, I live in Michigan....we don't have big hills around here. The only time I have to let off, because the engine is bogging, is when I haven't set the power high enough to start with. If it bogs when I'm working, it means I haven't selected the correct range, or am trying to do something on the edge of its ability.

In your post following this one, you mentioned how gear guys will admit that HST has some advantages, and not the reverse, but I've said that very clearly, a number of times. Each has situations where it will out perform the other...no doubt about it.

With that...I'm off to do some brush cutting with my MF 241 GEAR tractor....

The gear heads have spoken and I couldn't be more pleased with the debate and comments that came from the question. My real issue is now come down to choice, that being said, Iam off to a Branson dealer near me to check out the HST and DT style 2800 with front end loader package deals, if they have or make them type package deals here in my state at all ?

Probably not. I will update the thread after I made the choice, thank you all again for the insight and help. Happy Farming :)

A Branson dealer?

Yes Branson. The reason behind my madness is I can get a 2013 2800 HST 4x4 with R4 tires, the New Loader, new implements consisting of, 5' BH, 5' Box Rake, 4' Rotary tiller, 12" Post hole digger and a New 20' Trailer with dual axle and brakes with a spare tire, straps ect for 17.5k. It has the 3cyl Cummins motor which I like and it comes with a 2 year Bumper to Bumper warranty and an extra 2 year Power train warranty.

If you can direct me to a JD, Kioti or Kubota dealer that can touch that deal and price, I could be swayed to change. Because I have no loyalty to anyone brand as of yet. Being that everything is brand new I wont have to worry about someone Else's headache for a while. ;)
