This seems like an auction in which neither is willing to "loose".

I had forgot about the standing up part.

Kind of back to the original question - the gear transmission is easier to work on. Have had brother-in-law's gear drive Kubota apart multiple times to replace broken parts - no gears yet, just shift linkage pieces breaking - and 2 guys can have it pretty well completely lying on the floor in a couple hours. Finding where the broken pieces end up is the biggest time killer. Have not yet had to tear into our hydros. Unless you feather the lurch (wear), the loading is abrupt whereas the hydro takes time for the swash plate to move so the load on the power train is automatically feathered.

I've been following TBN threads since 2001 and there just isn't any significant number of HST transmission failures. There was an L48 that had a bad control valve recently but the actual hydro pump/motor package was apparently OK. I figure keeping the hyd fluid full, fresh and clean is job #1, probably next is avoiding overheating from using it in an abusive manner.

There are a lot of hydrostatic systems in equipment these days... powersteering, drivetrains on combines, payloaders, the list goes on and on. Hydro was newfangled technology in the 1960's but today it's totally mainstream and very reliable. As a drivetrain, it's one choice available, has its good and bad points. Reliability is actually more a strong point in its favor.

Put in your vote boys!!

HST For me:))

That is how a hydro works. You are telling me you have never had to let off the forward pedal when climbing a hill? Do you go everywhere in first range?

Ask every HST owner on this forum when your HST tractor starts to bog you have to let up as needed on the forward pedal. Again unless you have a feature like auto throttle like on the HST +. I am done with this discussion.

If you're done, why are you asking me more questions?

Dude, I live in Michigan....we don't have big hills around here. The only time I have to let off, because the engine is bogging, is when I haven't set the power high enough to start with. If it bogs when I'm working, it means I haven't selected the correct range, or am trying to do something on the edge of its ability.

In your post following this one, you mentioned how gear guys will admit that HST has some advantages, and not the reverse, but I've said that very clearly, a number of times. Each has situations where it will out perform the other...no doubt about it.

With that...I'm off to do some brush cutting with my MF 241 GEAR tractor....

The gear heads have spoken and I couldn't be more pleased with the debate and comments that came from the question. My real issue is now come down to choice, that being said, Iam off to a Branson dealer near me to check out the HST and DT style 2800 with front end loader package deals, if they have or make them type package deals here in my state at all ?

Probably not. I will update the thread after I made the choice, thank you all again for the insight and help. Happy Farming :)

A Branson dealer?

Yes Branson. The reason behind my madness is I can get a 2013 2800 HST 4x4 with R4 tires, the New Loader, new implements consisting of, 5' BH, 5' Box Rake, 4' Rotary tiller, 12" Post hole digger and a New 20' Trailer with dual axle and brakes with a spare tire, straps ect for 17.5k. It has the 3cyl Cummins motor which I like and it comes with a 2 year Bumper to Bumper warranty and an extra 2 year Power train warranty.

If you can direct me to a JD, Kioti or Kubota dealer that can touch that deal and price, I could be swayed to change. Because I have no loyalty to anyone brand as of yet. Being that everything is brand new I wont have to worry about someone Else's headache for a while. ;)

So where is Branson made? Consider resale value when you go to trade. You may find that you are stuck with Branson assuming there is a dealer around to trade with. Just a few thoughts.

Branson price sounds good, BUT kuboman is right, better think long term and resale or service. You just cant go wrong with a Kubota :dance1:

Branson is made in the USA in South Carolina, they are owned by a parent company in South Korea. Kind of like Samsung products that have taken over the TV, Phone, Refrigerator markets. Up close they are a stout looking tractor and I haven't found any bad reviews so far to warrant a change. Plus I like the color Red more then Orange.

Resale value I feel will come down to how well someone takes care of their machine, stays current and documents all maintenance. That is one thing that I dislike about some tractors though, only because of their name, people will ask MSRP for something that is all used up, rode hard and put away wet, because of the name. I just don't buy into that hype. As far as a dealer network for parts and service, there are several for me to choose from in my area, I feel comfortable in that aspect.

There's probably nothing wrong with a Branson tractor. But you kind of took a hard left turn on us after 10 pages of messages in the "Buying a Kubota" forum announcing you're really shopping for another brand. In addition to the "General" section, there is actually a Branson section here on TBN where your question might have been posted. But no hard feelings... this has been a good discussion. Best of luck with shopping and with your purchase.

My apologies for the oversight, but I have been looking for sometime to purchase a tractor and Kubota was at the top of my list when I started this post. The overwhelming choices to be made, but it wasn't until after I stared really looking at what I was getting for the $ spent, quality, warranty ect, did I make the decision to go Red and not Orange.

Bluegill, I expect you knew he was referring to a Branson tractor and not a Kubota tractor from a Branson, MO ; however, I didn't . I didn't even know that Branson tractors existed.

Yeah, I knew what he meant, but thought it strange in the Kubota forum after a long Kubota discussion..

Branson is brand not many have heard of. I just recently saw the first ad in this area. Might be a decent tractor, but I'm not interested.

I'm going to let my ignorance out, so DUCK!!!

I'm confused by the number of diffrent transmissions, and don't know what the right term for several are, but here I go...

Typical standard tranny: no shift on fly, stop, clutch and hunt for each gear, some have 1/2/3 ranges, also must stop/clutch for range and PTO speed range and on/off. Used on my Kub l285, ford NAA, and ford 3000

Hydro-static: I have used on lawn mowers, micro loaders (JD-244), skid steers, ect. Some have one, two, or three ranges... don't know if you must clutch to engage PTO/change range.
.

Mechanical Shuttle:
I think I've been around this, MF grading tractor, gears on floor board, come to complete stop, clutch, move "shuttle lever" on steering column ftom forward to reverse, release clutch. No gear changing on fly. Will stall tractor if in high gear and push too much

Glide shift: never realized if I've seen/used,

Power Shuttle: ? Is this what's on a full sized loader? No clutch, no gear shifter, just a twist knob on the shuttle lever, shift gear/reverse on fly with out coming to a stop? I used a JD-310(?d model maybe) that shuttled, no clutch, but you had to come to a complete stop to shift, and it had a gear shifter on floor. Will not stall when meeting immovable object. Note: the non-catepillars all seem to have a transmission locking E-brake that will absalotily stop you right now if you hit it, the cats have a mechanical E-brake that will kinda hold it still on level ground, but if pulled slows yoi down to eventual slow stop. Neither brake will stall the loader/forklift/whatever

Syncro Shuttle: ? Never used, but I think they say you still clutch to reverse like a mechanical, but you can gear change on fly?

DynaQ power shuttle: ???

Select-O-Speed: ???

Torque reverser: ???

Basically I'm wondering if my understanding is right? And if it is, doesn't power shuttle do everything that a standard does powerwise, with the flexablity of hydro. Is it only offered on full sized 75hp + machines?

I did a little research and found that Branson is a South Korean company and the tractors are made in Korea and shipped to the states partially assembled where they are completed. Never heard of them until now and of course the closest dealer is about 1000 miles away. That would be a bugger for parts.:)
