I don't like the kill switch. The choke will stop a saw just fine. It's way too easy to leave the kill switch off and flood your saw the next time you try to start it.

You didnt remove the outer deflector to remove the inner small restriction pipe? Just 2 screws hold outer on on older muffler.

Watch opening the sides like it sounds like you did. Will blow hot exhaust right on the plastic brake handle and possibly melt it when being used alot.

Reason for opening the front of the deflector.

Then my newer 501 muffler on how I do front deflector after remving that little inner pipe.

I did basically like your bottom picture but just with a simple clip with tin snips and pliers to fold the flap out, left the flap to keep the exhaust going forward, the louvers on the side I left alone.

On the pump diaphragm it had the black but since it didn't run right I didn't trust it, felt stiff at first and was kinda grody on the carb side... I have a gross of parts on hand so all 3 were available but found the blue first in an open kit... brown is my preferred as well.

Yes, choke is a good backup for a kill switch, long ago I got in the habit of turning the kill switch back on after the engine shuts off so everything is ready to go when I get back to it then I check it when I go to pull it again... modern ignitions are stronger than the older stuff, harder to foul a plug...
