Eggs are better then cash

I thought about getting some chickens, but eggs sell for about $1/dozen around here. It would take some time to justify a chicken house and fencing, etc. Maybe when the price of eggs go up.

I only have eight. Some lay and some have slacked off. You can buy eggs cheaper than you can feed the birds, build a coop and provide water, power in the winter to keep water from freezing

That would get old fairly quick for me. Might have to use the little Ruger 10/22 and "hit" the snooze button.

I'm a early riser . . .

Yes Don,
My neighbor up the road has a rooster that lets off a 1:30 - 2:00 AM every morning, Ive almost grabbed my 10-22 a few times!
Well Ernie that's early I would be thinking about the same :drink:

There's no money in selling chicken eggs. Duck eggs, on the other hand...

My grandmother always had egg money from her free range chickens...

One of our first visits the farm she asked if the boys like chicken and Mom said yes... The next day the flock was a little smaller...

As for eggs the shelves are empty or sales limited per shopper

Eddie... how's the family?

and eggs are tastier than Toilet Paper.

a friend asked me if I was selling laying hens, as they only wanted 3 - nope sorry

then he asked if I was selling eggs - yes
he always tries for the cheapest deal, and he's always bought $3 Cdn Walmart eggs ... umm, not the same
the eggs I sell are free-range, have been handle by only 1-2 people from collection to delivery, and you get them fresh, not 3-4 weeks after production when they arrive at the store. Prices are standard for the area. He's free to keep looking while I sell out, and struggle to by chicken feed in the current pandemic.

it's all good - my loyal customers get the current rate, but when this is all over, my egg prices will probably be a bit higher ... the value is there

cheers

"eggs are tastier than toilet paper"

That is true, but......we can do without eggs,..... much more comfortably than doing without toilet paper.
(Not that I want to do without either)

Of course in times of supply chain issues, having chickens is a different matter.

However, having lived here in the country for thirty or so years, I have noticed hundreds of people that got in and out of the chicken/egg business. Why is that?
