I have a Sears Kenmore two slice toaster given to us as a wedding gift 50 years ago. I works just fine - if I remember to adjust the little knob between toast & muffins.

However - that was back in the days when small kitchen appliances were made to last.

Yeah, but that was then and this is now. Need to find a current model I can buy that will handle toast and maybe an occasional wide slice of homemade. We would like to try crumpets but can't find any.

Agreed, those old toasters were great. Maybe a fire hazard but they could handle a slice of bread. You were smart enough to hang onto yours while I bought the line that newer was better and got a new one. Sigh.

And to stay on track, still no email notices.

No email notices for me either. I double checked that I had them enabled and they are. So I am going to write off that perk and get on with life.

Very important observation as english muffins require a wee bit more time. Then if you forget to dial 'the little knob' back you end up with burnt toast.

You might try placing a small pen mark at your desired levels for consistency. Mine is usually around the 2.3 mark for muffins and 2'ish for my 'toast sliced' (thicker) bread. Why the knob goes all the way (international toast calibration standard?) to 6, I have no idea? That would be for sending smoke signals!

Oh, and I'm still not receiving email notifications.

Wow, really a 50 year old toaster, where was that made? that deserves taking a picture of and posting. It's probably worth more now then when it was bought.

Just unplug it when not it use. I remember all the toaster fires of the 1960's and 1970's that started house fires.

My wife still complains to me about unplugging the toaster when not in use. I don't see how a toaster can start a fire when the button isn't pushed down. Seam's to me when the button is pushed down only then the toaster is on, right, wrong, yes, no, maybe, someone should test this theory by sticking their finger's in the toaster's slot so I'll know for sure. Just file it under some government scientific study and you might get paid for it, not only that but it will keep us occupied till the email alerts starts working again.

We recently bought the cheapest 2 slice toaster Bed, Bath and Beyond had, and no complaints so far. I never realized folks have so much trouble with toasters.

Oldpath05--

In the 1960's I think it was the switch that went bad. Apparently they just started on their own and heated until the thing caught something on fire. Fast forward to all the toaster ovens that caught fire in the 1970's and I think it was the same problem. In fact, we have a couple year old, high dollar convection toaster oven and my wife says to unplug it when not in use. She says it's in the owner's manual. Even these days you occasionally hear of a toaster or toaster oven fire issue.

Actually, and I forgot about this but our toaster oven makes better toast than the toaster. Wife won't let me use it as a toaster, however, even though it's a "toaster oven".

I just checked and still no email notification.

It might as well be a toaster thread now whilst we wait for the email notices to be fixed.

Besides that, Coyote machine needs our help finding a toaster that works and this is TBN's forte!

The man's in strife (what with his slices being held hostage and all)!

Here is the only USA made toaster I can find for C.M. and it's only $700.00, probably comes with a tail light guarantee too. If I lived in Vermont, I'd by this this toaster because I heard the average income is $100.000.00/year, mostly from making maple syrup.
