Engine ideas

Took the engine off my 5240 today and re-threaded the 5/16" bolt pattern on the new engine to 3/8" and mounted the adapter plate. Turned down some drill rod for a pilot bushing yesterday, now I just need to find my gear puller and get the sprocket off, and I can mock up the engine to see what I need to do with the muffler.

I bored the sprocket out, needed to use my carbide boring bar HSS wasn't cutting it. And milled in a shallow keyway just need to square it out with a diamond file.

I forgot the gear spacer that goes between the gear and the engine on the crank.
Was you able to brotch out the gear the way you wanted?
Metal spacer works as well aluminum.

Finally got some time to work on again, got the sprocket filed out completely, and made a spacer from some rings I cut out on my plasma table turned them down one the outside and added the lips. The ID is 4" so I'm going to have to RTV everything now to just make a spacer and figure out where I put the pilot, (its one my workbench somewhere )

I did that once. Never again. I had to use a large prybar to take the engine off the transmission. I vowed to never again use any sort of sealant on a gasket again unless the manufacturer specifically requires it.

I noticed the last blue glue I got and used .
It did not feed the same as the old RTV did.
I went to take apart a piece and sure enough like you said
It did not want to come apart??????
They must of changed the Formula???
So the only you can use it is on each side of a gasket.

Got the engine installed, its making a little bit of noise. So I'm going to pull the engine and look at the pilot bushing my DRO was a little off so it was 5 thou under. But I'll trim the hood and get the muffler situated first. I'll grab a picture tomorrow.

I pulled the engine today, and there was a lot of wear on the bronze bushing in the planetary. I'm going to turn down a new .01 larger pilot bushing and see how that works, think I'll use 8620 this time I got some rods of that on the shelf.

Looking at the pictures
looks like the muffler didn't give a problem :thumbsup:
with the handle bars.

But what about the hi/lo shifter arm?

The high-low arm?, I think I'm going to make a new one with a bend in it really don't want to cut out the muffler. I might replace the bronze bushings in the planetary if I can figure out what size they are while I'm at it.
