Looking at a plasma

Was pricing Hypertherm but way too $$$$$!

I'd like your personal experience with everlast products

Thanks

Excellent so far (about a year and a half) Don't have a plasma, wish I did, I just have a PA160 welder I use for stick and TIG. Meets all my expectations.

I have a Power Plasma 70.
Good:
>easily cuts to its rating
>consumables reasonable
>good customer support
>has been reliable

Not so good:
>Several QA air lines leaked - replaced them with compression fittings and truck brake air line (works fine now)
>damage in shipping that was not immediately discovered (cost me to replace facing)
>HF points needed adjusting
>screws strip out of case easily
>bracket for air water trap did not fit.

These issues were all resolved either by Everlast or "creative" modifications. All in all it is a good buy. But I don't work welding professionally. Just welding and fabbing on farm equipment.

The Everlast unit is not a Hypertherm. To sell for that much less corners will be cut. Just be aware of it when buying. You are not going to get a Porsche on a Yugo budget.

I too have the Power Plasma 70, that is working fine. Although it was a painful experience getting here. It took me several weeks and 4 PP 60 machines. I have to say, they did up hold their warranty. After 4 Power Plasma 60's failing with less than 1 hour of use, they "upgraded" me to the 70 series. Frustrating experience, but it worked out. The only reason I kept trying to work with them is, for the price you can't get a more capable machine.

Have read many forums related to shipping damage on these Everlast units

Was looking at Hypertherm but dont know if I want to spend that much $ on a machine that I may not use that often

Happens to the best of them. UPS, FED-EX, and USPS all can break a cannon ball. My new Lincoln V350-Pro was truck shipped, spool gun didn't work upon arrival. Didn't know if there was a problem with the spool gun or the power source its self. Had to take everything to the repair center. One wire inside the power source was not connecting. Was this an error in Cleveland or by the shippers? I vote for the shippers!

Also Look Thermal Dynamics or Good Used machines.I see quality units for $400.00 all the time..If you have a Northern Tool in your area, They have had good luck with the Plasma that they sell. I used one and it was pretty good but $700.00

I have their PP50 plasma and PA200 stick machine. I am totally satisfied with both and the service I have received. I plan on buying one of their MTS200S machines as soon as money allows.

My two Everlasts, PP70 and 200DX Tig, both work perfectly.

I have a PP60 and have had no problems with it. Like others I made some minor improvements. One thing I was told was not to put too much air pressure into it so I added an external air regulator to the water separator on the back of the unit. I also store it inside the house during the winter so it doesn't see the repeated cold then warm cycles during the winter that tends to cause moisture problems.

I'm sure there are better units on the market but I just don't need a plasma cutter so badly that I'm willing to spend more than twice what I did. Honestly if I had to do it over again I would buy the same plasma cutter or maybe the PP70.

I did look at used but everything I found was used pretty hard by a welding shop. Maybe it's just cosmetic but I have seen how some company owned equipment is treated and decided not to go that route.
