Hitch installed, trailer borrowed, sitting in the driveway. Couple pre-trip items to check on my tow truck, but will get the dually loaded tomorrow evening, ready for Thursday A.M. departure. Hope all goes well, about 160 miles one way, likely be about 4 hours drive, due to WV hills and narrow roads. Poor Lil Red (F250) is gonna get a workout, hauling the 24' GN with its larger siblings loaded.

Made the trip today... towing with a gooseneck is so much smoother and easier than a bumper pull trailer. The dually on my BP trailer would have been a white knuckle ride the whole way, and likely bent the frame of my red truck. The dually at about 9k lbs rode well on the trip down as did the truck I traded for on the way back. The fuel mileage on the first 262 miles was just over 11 mpg, not bad for a gross weight likely north of 22k lbs.

The new truck has a solid frame, 7.3 turbo diesel motor, 6spd manual trans. The body is rusty as he!!, but aside from the rear doors, I don't need any body parts. The bed sides are new, but dented in places, and it's long bed, not short like my others. But will provide the drivetrain and electrical system for my project quite nicely.

New owner of the dually seems happy with the trade, and he should be... he got a great truck, that just needs a few items dealt with to make it 100%, things I didn't have the time, money, or desire to fix.

Few pictures loaded, leaving my house with the dually, and stopped for fuel on the way back with the new truck.

Nice. Sounds like it was uneventful which is good of course.

You are well set up for grill guards now!

Too bad the grill guard on the new truck is pretty beat up... But it may still provide material for a new and improved version at some point!

I like the house too.... it's over a hundred years old, on top of a knob, with a nice view on every side. However, it's at the intersection of a 2 lane blacktop road and county gravel road, which separates the house from the barn. Having grown up at the end of the road back up in a holler, it's a bit more exposed than I care for, but none the less I like it.

Yesterday was a busy day. Got home from work about 8am, and startedggetting the motor/trans/transfer out of the crew cab chassis, and drug it down to the field behind the house. It's been getting rather cluttered with junk around the barn, and the wife makes it a point to tell me every chance she gets.

Took the trailer back to its storage location.

Worked on the crew cab for an hour or so, drilling spot welds. Right rocker panel is off, it needed replaced any way, and the back edge of the floor pan is now separated where the seam between the crew cab floor and extended cab floor will meet.

That's a long truck. I know when I tow with out F250 crew cab with 8ft bed, backing up the equipment trailer in tight spots is kinda interesting, mainly because the turning circle of that truck is akin to the QE2. I do like the power of the Turbo Diesel though.
