Farmtrac 60
Hooked up wood splitter today and no pressure. The hydraulics had been acting slow and jerky over the summer. Fluid is milky. 3 pt hitch will barely lift unloaded. I unscrewed the hyd filter and it barely has trickle coming out of it with engine running. Guessing pump? If so I am seeing 2
$200 variance in pricing, who do I need to buy from? Thanks in advance for help.

You need to re place the fluid for sure.

Replace the filter and clean out any screens.

Purchase a hyd gage to check, monitor, and trouble shoot your hyd system.

Might try a little Seafoam in the hyd tank with the new fluid to help capture any remaining water.

And I access the screens where?

We have a Farmtrac forum with some very knowledgable servicing dealers and owners. Check them out or maybe the mod/adm can move you over there.
Bought my FT 60 used and it started getting to slow in cold weather operation. Drained the fluid/installed a new filter and new fluid. All is well.

You really need a good manual.

You could run a hose from the pump output to the tank and see if the pump is pumping.

Should it not have flow through the filter at all times? I can take it off while the engine runs and nothing flows.

If it is a return filter, you have to have flow from the pump and other circuits to see anything..

Some hyd systems have input/suction filters.

If you have fluid in the tank and it is full, loosen the fitting on the pump and see if you have any flow. BE careful, wear safety glasses when testing hyd.

Got it. Filter is on suction side so without the system being under pressure probably no flow. Would it be reasonable to use low pressure air and blow back through suction line from pump then drain fluid? Might clear screen?

I doubt that would work. Some of that sludge looks like tar, and you need to clean it off or get new screens if your machines even has the screens.

If it is a suction filter, and it gets clogged up, you risk the pump.

A lot of hydrostatic transmission use a suction filter, but must be changed often.

A major part of trouble shooting is knowing how things work.
