Just wondering how are you handling the captured hogs?

buried them? or processed for bacon?

Unfortunately, I had to bury them because couldn't find any person for processing the hogs
Here in Texas, you can get paid for live feral hogs. I have one neighbor who has set up two round panel pens with cell phone video and control on my property. Seems that he is always adjusting them. The hogs he traps are sold to another neighbor of mine who is one of the listed "hog holders". It's nothing to make one wealthy, but it does cover a lot of costs. My neighbor pays for 80# and up; boar or sow. If there is one near you, contact them and ask for prices. The bigger they are, the more per pound.

Hog Buyers: do an internet search for "Feral Swine Holding Facilities"

Before the traps, and still at certain times, I night-hunt with a very good night scope to try to keep the population down. For those hogs, I have a couple of guys who will take them, but most are thrown at a spot I have along the river where coyotes can't drag them up and water will not wash them away. I don't leave them in my pasture because unless I cut up the hides, the vultures can't get into them, plus coyotes will distribute bones which is another problem.

Interesting for the reward program in Texas.
In California, the property owner does not need a license for the hogs hunting due to the hogs' depredation.
No reward for the hogs but they have to report to the fish & game when, where catch and sex.
Other than that the sports hog hunter must have a license which is quite expensive here.

To be clear, there is not really a 'Texas' reward. It is a commercial venue that pays for the hogs, then I believe forwards them, perhaps Europe for the expensive restaurants to serve "Wild Boar" from their menus.

Otherwise, hogs are considered varmints here and like CA, do not require a permit or license to hunt - unless there will be a benefit such as food, but the license is not much. Don't ask me if it makes sense to suppress hunting demand via having them butchered and distributed to the needy.

Good idea. And you may trap a few.
But… feral swine are among the top 4 smartest animals including dolphin monkey elephant.
Respectfully you are educating them to never go near a trap.
I was involved with JagerPro trapping corrals that you could remotely drop the gate by phone from even out of state. Cellular cameras the whole bit.
truthfully the best way is condition a sounder, get them used to same place and food source, then trap the entire group and that takes a little doing for the older smarter one’s.
just another thought. How many pigs have you seen hit along the road. Now how many deer.
3 week piglets can survive with moma killed and in predator inhabited surroundings.
3 month fawn with mother lost most likely won’t survive.

Best of luck and enjoy
Their fun and work.
Have you ever thought about making a trap for feral pigs?
Here is the answer to how to make it.
The cost is less than $50.

Late to the party, and with five pages of posts, I do not have the energy to read them all.

So sorry if this question was already answered. But what do you do with what you catch? Are they edible? Even good eating?

Nothing like that in Western PA that I know of. Hence the question...we do have an abundance of ground hogs though...but much smaller and not known as a delicacy.

Yes, they are very smart enough to shy away from the trap.
That is the reason I never set up the trigger(latch) on the trap while feeding the sour corn right away.
Once they are coming and eating the corn without doubt or fear then spread the bait corn in the trap tray.
Waiting a couple more days or so then setting up the trigger(latch) on the trap..
It takes more than 10days or longer in my experience.
It works for me well ^^LOL^^

Several of my neighbors say it was the most delicious feral pig meat in their life.
They added the meat was all natural, no growing hormones or antibiotics.
I might try it next time if I caught. ^^LOL^^

no doubt any under cooked meat is potentially dangerous. but handling feral hogs can be harmful too:
interesting article. what caught my attention: "For instance, humans also can contract leptospirosis through contact with hogs’ blood, urine and other body fluids"

i'm sure the experienced & careful hunters that have posted here handle feral hogs safely w/gloves, & cook thoroughly etc. but there are amateurs that may put themselves at risk just through improper handling & cooking of a feral hog.
trichinosis, tapeworm, & swine brucellosis are also something i'd want to avoid.
