Guess which combo finally worked??
If you guessed the 27" breaker bar with the giant Lisle metal band wrench, you're correct. Gah that big filter is put on by a gorilla at the factory. Even scored the edges with a razor to help break the paint. But it would not give! For a reference marker, I use that breaker bar to remove and install the lug nuts on my truck, torqued to 140ftlbs
Anyway, that job is finally done after 2 previous attempts that broke lesser filter wrenches
Pn for the band wrench Lisle 53030
Strap wrench Lisle 60200
3jaw wrench Lisle 63830
I normally have luck with the 3jaw wrench but it just crushed the filter too badly this time. I did have to buy all new wrenches, I didn't have anything to fit over the big hydraulic filter. The two auto parts wrenches (the two w red handles) were worthless. The band wrench's handle bent, it was straight.. The toothed wrench just wasn't built right. Good idea, but no dice.
Filters should be much easier to remove next time. Or I'll search for the fluted filter versions, I prefer those.
As for filers, both Napa 1553 and 1715 this go round. I did use the vacuum trick. Lost abt 60oz total that I measured when I put back in. Not bad i guess?
Feels good to finally get this done.
