Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Fitting chains R4

Nice set of chains. Do you log in the winter?

No. That's just an image from the internet, not my tractor but my rear chains are the same. I used to have a pic of my chains on TBN but it's gone from my attachments.

Ok. I have a photo of my snow removal stuff in the thread that's 200+ pages, can't even find it.

My rear chains are 4 link ladder not the every 2 link. They are 3/8" and are heavy. I jack up the rear on a level surface and put it in neutral. Chains are laid on floor behind tractor. I lift one end of the chain about a foot and hook that on the R4 lugs then rotate the tire to use its leverage to pull the chain around. Then connect the inside link first then the outer link. Last is 2 bungees across the wheel to keep them tight. Front chains are easier. Just use the loader to raise the wheels off the ground then put the chains on. Before using this method I would always hurt my back trying to lift the chain and drape it over the tire which is really hard to do with fenders.

I just got some 2 link chains for my 2320 at the end of last winter and the above is how I got them on to start.. having another set of hands to hold the tire in place after you roll the chains up is nice to have.

After i get them connected the first time, while the tractor is still jacked up I try to hook the chains as tight as possible - then rotate the tires several times - retighten the chains a link or two - lather/rinse/repeat until all the slack is out of the chains..

My debate is i have 3 asphalt drive ways (mine included).. Do i put the chains on for all the drives OR try to clear the 3 drives and then put the chains on.. Im leaning toward putting them on and leaving them on.. Who want to be out in the cold/wet putting on chains with snow/water dripping off the tractor..
