Ford 1500/1700 injector pump

I don't think it would be too difficult either. There is plenty of material on the boss to drill and tap it and the only way I would do that is to remove the cover and make sure I was very careful not to get into anything...then flush the cavity out real good. It is not rocket science.

We are right back down on the ground as to whether the holes should have been machined or not.

Russell.....how about going ahead and changing that fluid in the 1700 you have that has no holes and tell us how much fluid seems correct. I think 5-ounces is too much and would be very interested in what you discover. How much have you been using when you change the oil in the one that HAS the plugs?

If you went to the ford new holland website and retreived the part number for the 1700 pump, it doesnt specify one without the plugs, and the drawing they show has the plugs. lol maybe the shibura parts page shows something different (if they even have a parts page). Last night I got out my sub par IT manual and actually typed in what it said about the various models, which ones had the plugs and which didnt ect. And then lost my dang internet connection and lost all that I had typed lol, I was tired and didnt redo it all. TB

The 1700 that has the injector pump without fill level and drain plugs is a parts tractor. If I drained the oil there is no way to tell if it was the correct amount.
Here is what I have done on the 1700 with fill level and drain plugs. First I topped off the injector. Second I drained it into a measuring cup. The oil volume is just shy of 4 oz.
In the pix below check the P/N of the 2 pumps. The one with plugs is -4190 and the one without plugs is -4191.

Come on now TB....re-do all that so I can read it!

Jones...I am going to play dumb here....well...not actually play but simply be dumb.

I am fairly new to the tractor-nut family and need a definition of what you call a "parts tractor". I usually understand that to mean that it is too far gone to rebuild and needs to be sold for the parts. How are you using the phrase "parts tractor".

Well I take the best parts to put on my 1700 4X4. The parts tractor is 2X and I have not decided yet if I will invest in the parts needed to get it running again. Some of my other post show the cracked head and it is missing valves, springs, retainers, pushrods, radiator and a piece or two for the 3pt hitch.

Okay Russell...I understand now. By-the-way...the pump on my 1500 is a 104302 6571.

Ok guys, check this out. Here is some pictures of someones 1700 motor apart (thanks to whoever posted those). You can see where the pump bolts on from the backside of the timing cover. Dont see a good way to get oil in the through the front of the pump. Just an observation... TB

I did notice in the (pump only) picture that the pump has the drain & check plugs. Is it possible that the pumps without the plugs are built different on the inside of the engine? I bet there are some Ford mechanics online here that know all the answers to the questions we are asking.

Good work there TB. And....there is no connection anywhere on the pump to the block except right there where it bolts-up to the case.

Ray....I been waiting for DAYS for a good Ford mechanic to get in here with the definitive answer.....nothing yet. No harm intended to anybody here that is a good mechanic and you certainly know what I mean.

Somewhere....somebody knows this history behind this and it is either a machining error along the production line like some think, or a purposeful omission like others think.

I am looking for something like this...."Hey you fools....I am a professional Ford engineer/mechanic and here is the explanation....etc." I got my fingers crossed, but I don't think I will try and hold my breath long enough for that to happen. Maybe it was a way for Ford to sell more gaskets for the rear cover (LOL).
