Ford Model 101 3 Bottom Plow

I have a Ford Dearborn 10-209, 3 x 16's with coulters. Yours should scour just like mine after a few hours. Looks like yours has trip bottoms when striking a solid object. Once you have it setup to your tractor the art form of plowing begins.

Your plow bottoms look identical to mine. I have had my disc pans shine, but not like the mirror finish on your moldboards. That is sweet to look at.

I have been reading and rereading the operators manual. Seems there was a lot of options for the 3 bottom 101. Incuding a kit to add a 4th bottom. I would be interested in this option and if any are available.
Also a pneumatic tail wheel. The adjustment lever would be a neat option also. The ops manual shows and tells how to mount all these options. I am impressed!
Also, the forward beam, that the forward coulter clamps to, is slightly bent. Should this be bent or should it be straight?

Plowing with a rollover eliminates the "dead" furrow. Our fields are furrow irrigated so they need to be very level. Soil is clay mostly with some gravel and we use deep suck plowshares and each field is ripped prior to plowing.

Also, if you continue to break (plow) round and round over the years you will put the dirt out of the corners cause a dip. I like the rollover plows, but I changed to a switch plow and like it better.

I have added a bottom to the 101 plow and what it involves is getting that angled piece of the beam that separates the plow shanks (moldboard units). The only thing different in different plows is the beam framework. The bottom units are all the same. The beam piece you need is very expensive and used is the only way to go. Mine new was $150 ish maybe 25 years ago. I see the angled piece with a bottom on it from time to time at auctions but never quite sure what width plow it fits. It could be 12", 14" or 16". Abilene Machinery in Texas probably has scrap 101's and there should be lots in boneyards because Ford made tons of them. The 4 bottom plow also had a brace rod if I recall.

the 101 is a nice plow and works well as it is with a simple rolling wheel in the back. Saying that, the plow has its limitations and I would rather buy a different plow than put too much money into a 101. I actually changed a 3X 12" plow to a 3X 16" and then sold it for a different plow. While I have not found the parts manual yet I did find 3 16" moldboards that are nearly new.

I put the plow on the 3PH today. I knew I would have problems, as it's Cat 1 pins and My Mahindra is Cat 2 pins. I did have two bushings on hand. One fit great, but the other had to have 1/4 inch cut off. The old snap lock pin that came with the plow was ground down to fit the reduced size.............yet not enough for my Cat 2 ball. So the lock pin is not all the way through. Notice I didn't forget to move the swinging drawbar full left!

I made a beautiful 1st furrow. But I was watching the plow roll the sod over at the end and got a little
crooked. Oh yeah......1st pass I had the position and draft levers all the way down.

Second pass went a little deep and I ground to a stop, as I hadn't leveled the plow with 7 inch blocks under my left tractor tires. I tried again and heard a loud.................POP. Yep................I sheared a bolt on a huge root.

But my tires spacing in the furrow is almost perfect.

I love plowing..............and discing! Camera bag is hanging from the Rops.
