Great hook on the subject line Rich, and BTW if the moderators made up a forum for "dumb acts" it would probably be the busiest of the board!:D

Teach,

Don't feel too bad, my shop door has a smushed header rain shield. The door is 10' 3", but my backhoe is 12'6". It's gotten itself smacked 2 times so far. Each time, I was in the act of hitting the clutch as quick as I could --> having remembered that the hoe was still full up just as I bodily passed the door frame. D'oh!!

(Just to stir the pot)

If the tractor was an HST, it would have stopped faster!

The only reason I have not dented my newly installed FOPS yet is because my ROPS took out all the big lower limbs  prior to FOPS installaton. I will dent the FOPS  this year after mud season when I expand my tractor trails. Jay

You mean you can't get in your garage if you forget to put the ROPS down. Ramming your garage header really isn't a good ROPS test. Or even a got test for the structural strenght of your garage. I'll bet in the near future there will be a sticker somewhere on the tractor to remind the operator of ROPS clearance.

I was carrying a load of firewood to the passthrough from the garage to the woodburner in the living room.

I've had the ROPS down most of the 'winter' such as it has been since the main tractor work has been moving wood. I only put it up when working to pull gravel laden snow back into the drive before it all melted, then managed to find out my front mounted rear blade needed some further refinement. That soured my mood a bit, so I parked the tractor with the ROPS up. Next time I needed wood, I also had very little time between coming home and having to head out to parent conferences -- about 90 minutes to feed and water the sheep and donkeys, bring in wood, cook and eat dinner, and leave again.

Being in a hurry almost always makes things take longer.

No serious damage to anything, just a small dent in the cedar board above the door.

I am very fortunate, working around Semi's all my life as a Driver and now as Management I have great overhead habits. Running on and off trailers with fork-trucks you have always got to be conscious of the mast and the overhead doors on the roll up trailers not to mention dock doors. I subconsciously always note the location of the overhead door from just years habit. Now don't get me wrong, I have caught lazy overhead door springs and pulled door and track right off the wall. You do the once LOL and it kind of burns the habit into you. Trucking and Overhead issues go hand &hand

Don't feel too bad. When removing the huge amount of snow from last week's storm, I poked a hole in the door of the pole barn with a bucket tooth on the FEL. And, no, I didn't slide into it. Carelessness, fatigue, stupidity? They probably all played a part!

Never admit to stupidity Audry, I have never done anything stupid, my thought were just someplace else

I didn't say you did anything stupid; I said I did:D. It probably seemed I was responding to your thread but actually I was writing to the original poster after another one said stupidity caused his goober. And, no, I know I'm not stupid but I have done stupid things... what makes mine stupid is that this is the second time in the past year I've put a hole in that door with a tractor. Last spring I backed into it with a backhoe. Hmm, think I'd be more careful around that door:)
