I plan to have two garage doors. One on the front which will be 18 feet wide and one on the side which is 9 feet wide.

This past week we poured the slab, and today we raised the walls. We put almost 100 tons of gravel under the slab. The trusses should be here Monday and they will be installed on Tuesday if things go well.
I marked the locations for the outlets and drilled many holes for wires. Tomorrow I will install the electrical boxes.

Things are going extremely well so far, with the weather being in the 20's at night and 40's during the day with little rain or snow. Last weeked I went to a Black Smith meeting and someone was giving away steel. I got an I beam about 6 feet long. I embedded it in the floor (see attached picture) and will be using it for a vise stand. The Bobcat driver tried to push the I beam into the gravel with no luck. I got the post hole digger and PT422 and drilled the hole in about 30 seconds.

I forgot to take pictures of the walls, but will do so tomorrow.

Thanks MrJimi. I took some pictures of the framing today. See attached. I put in all of the switch and outlet boxes that I could today. No big deal, but it's one more thing done.

I am putting in 15 fixtures with 2 four foot tubes each. The bulbs are the T8 (1 inch in diameter). I will have five light switches, each controling three fixtures. If this is not enough I will have a halogen light on a stand.

We are making good progress. Yesterday and today they put on about 80% of the shingles. The pictures were taken early in the day and by 5 most of the shingles were on. We had the framing and electrical inspection today and everything passed except the ground rods. I had not installed them since the builder wanted to wait until we had graded the ground. The inspecter passed the electrical once he saw me starting to install the rods. I have attached a few pictures.

Looks nice. I have to ask... why are they installing the shingles from the top down?

Great looking garage/shop !. I too wondered why the shingles are being installed from the top down. Should this thread be moved over to the Projects Forum ?

As far as the roof, I too questioned this. What he is doing is dividing the roof into four sections from top to bottom. He does the top section. Then the next section and lifts shingles to join the two. The advantages is that he never (or rarely) walks on a finished roof section. Also the 2 X4s to aid in moving around on the roof (it has a 10/12 pitch) are not nailed into shingles, so there are no holes to patch in the shingles. Overall I think this will improve the job. There will be much less damage to the shingles when the job is done.

Should this be in the project forum. I don't know. Probably yes. I would prefer it here since this is my home. Maybe I should include more pictures of the PT. I have used it to tow a trailer of electrical supplies and move the wood stove around. Also carry trash out to the street.
