my latest "cabin" plan. Pretty basic. Added an 8x8 mud room on back for washer/dryer. Don’t really like it there, but could extend back porch along back side eventually. On a slab, but kept centered wall in case I decide basement.
I drew outside walls for 6.5” SIP panels. Thinking windows might need to straddle a panel, within a panel leaves very little panel at window, will probably break. I will get SIP quote, but I’m sure I can frame and insulate with rock wool cheaper.
Panel company in Radford VA around $320 for a 4x8 panel. Need 20-24, then 14 taller ones for ends. Didn’t size roof panels yet, that will get expensive.
Pretty large for a cabin, but want to make it easy to add on if we want to later.
Just realized I didn’t update some of the text for room sizes.

Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of 8.8C and it's presently 17.8C, clear & calm. The weatherguessers really got this prediction wrong, but I suppose because it's so nice, no one will notice.

It's 'into town' day for mail/groceries. Yay!

That's about it, take care all.

who's porch is it anyway? Which one is Alpha?

Good morning! Another 90s day. 69˚F now with S winds, Summer is here.

Busy day the sove top people will repair the stove today and the floor people will do the floors before we move furniture into the new house. We also have to get the old house pristine for the realtor showing tomorrow which includes a lawn mowing in the heat.

Had air fried French fries last night with the freshly harvested potatoes, they were really good even without oil or salt.
air cooked fresh potatoes sounds good, can you cut them as thin as shoestring potatoes?

Good Morning,
55° and foggy now, high in the upper 70’s after it burns off, with no chance of rain. This was from Saturday afternoon-

Yesterday started off slow, wife at farmers market, leaving me to take care of daughter, Zoe and the dogs. Helped oldest son with some electrical work, he had a 20’ light pole that was damaged so he cut it down and we pulled the base out of the ground. He put a PT 4x4 in its place with just a junction box and an outlet. But after he disconnected all the old wiring, he couldn’t remember how it was connected, it was all 120v, but was actually a 240v feed to two circuits using a common neutral.

After lunch, it dried up enough to mow, and mow I did. Used both the Progressive and the “little” 90” Landpride behind the tractor as well as the Lazer, and got nearly everything mowed.

Here’s my helper blowing off the rear deck on the Progressive mower.

Today should be fun. The contractors are coming shortly to dig and form the footings for the old folks home.
I did mark the utilities that they have to trench across (in two places) and noted the depth. Hopefully they will find them gracefully. There are two conduits, a water line, a pressure sewer line and a direct burial phone line, all in the same trench.
Later this morning, after they are started, I’ve got to take my wife to get a shot in her hip, then cook lunch for the contractors out on the grill.

Here’s a link to the recordings that I sent Drew from last Friday night. I just let the recorder run through the entire practice / jam, it’s not a real recording session, but I thought that he would like some unprocessed audio to challenge his speaker setup.

Grandson pic is great!
Songs sound really good too for no editing. Thanks!
They are ALL older ones. Even the 2017 Edge.
Ha! Newest vehicle in our "fleet" is 2015. Rest are 2010 or older....

I never liked anything about how insurance companies priced coverage. But they have extensive data on costs of claims to justify it. I always just made my decisions based on the likelihood i would need to use it when it came to anything than Liab.

Once I was about to cancell the Comp/collision on a vehicle but the underwroiting rules prohibited owned vehicles without comp and collision in their 'preferred risk' company so I actually would incurr extra costs to cancell the comp/collision.

I would always recommend PIP, UM/UIM in higher limits.
Daughter just bought her grandma's car. She's 18, on our policy. Liability $36/month. If I add comp and collision it goes up to $136/month for her. Car is worth maybe $7000.

I did not remember, but our company said that her liability covers her for UM/UIM. I asked the verification of this about 3 kinds of ways, and agent said with liability alone, she is covered if she's not at fault, and other person at fault has no insurance. This is a real thing because of the number of people that have recently arrived, and use the fake paper license plates.

Work is going to sell me an old Powerbilt planer, that might need a new belt. Blades seem sharp. Getting it for a great price. Hope to get middle daughter started on some wood working projects like maybe birdhouses. Need a scroll saw too for artistry type cutting.

My young team is really learning the Mitutoyo Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) at work. already learning to program it too. I am amazed at their ability to learn things. I think 1 is maybe near the genius level, although his calculus based physics final knocked him back into a lower earth's orbit.

I was thinking about Bird too the other day. I remember when he lived near Waco and repaired pneumatic air impacts and such. Prayers for him and family.

Puppy pics are nice. I have watched the puppy show during super bowl halftime....

Asking a question, how have you motivated your kids to keep doing well at school? My son is bored with it. He makes really high grades. At one time a couple of years ago, he told me he wanted to be valedictorian when he graduates high school. He's just finishing 8th grade. Now he says he will continue to do "good" at school, but doesn't want me harping on him to excel. He is a world class procrastinator. I have not harped at him much, but I've told him he should do his best just for his own satisfaction. It's just not that important to him to be #1 anymore. I'm trying to keep him motivated, without driving a wedge between us. In 5th grade, he was tied for top student. In his middle school, they don't rank them AFAIK. I want to find out where he stands so it might help his mother and I guide him. I may ask the principal if they can give me his rank. One friend said to give him $$$ for every year he stays near the top. He is signed up for the all the advanced classes they offer. I am blessed to have him for a son. Am trying not to be a "tiger" dad. He's not sure what he "wants to be when he grows up"....and I understand that.

Kyle, the only advice I can give regarding motivating 'the youth of today' is personal. I have no children myself, but have instructed today's youth.

Somehow he needs to have a future goal/interest/career to work towards.

My story was that I was a typical "I know it all" teenager. My only interest was History... Maths was my worst subject, "Why do I need to know algebra? I'll never use it."

It got to the point when, after just turning 17, my parents sat me down around the kitchen table and said, "If you want, we'll sign the papers and you can join the Navy." (**** or get off the pot time  ) So I said yes.

Navy Recruitment tests said that I was smart enough for a technical trade! Really!?! So off I went and, after initial recruit training, it was on to trade school where they taught me... algebra. It was required in order to understand electrical/electronic circuitry for RADAR and Gunfire Control computers. It turns out that Maths is/was my strongest subject because I had a purpose/need for it.

That's the point. (Oh, and the Navy kept on sending me back to school over my career. It never ends :D. Ended up with an Advanced Diploma in Electronics when I retired.)

Morning all. Went to bed early, so up for the room visit. lol
Kyle, remember a neighbor boy, from my son’s description I thought he was lazy in school. Turns out he was very smart and school wasn’t challenging enough. He became an engineer and doing well.

Coffee is cooling in cup. 70° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 80° with bright sunshine. Got 4 gallons of WEED killer put down on fence line and around buildings. Wind held off most of the day. Today I will be putting up all my yard ornaments. Then another afternoon on the porch.
May Full Moon is the Flower Moon. When clear skies it should be available for 3 nights.

Everyone stay safe and well.

Good Morning All.

60 going to 88 and supposed to get humid...felt great yesterday.

Kyle, I think you're doing the right things with your son...showing interest, staying positive and helping him learn responsibility and self-discipline, staying supportive, giving positive reinforcement, like the short trips you've taken him to celebrate. Your own strong work ethic serves as a great role model. Maybe he is old enough for a day spent observing a class at A&M in an area where he is interested, if it can be arranged, and walking around the college campus and watching an Aggies game, or intramural...this might set up long range goals in his mind. Your unconditional love is most important.

Yesterday was yoga day at our house, so took Della on her first trail hike away from home...went to two parks, she loved all the attention she was getting and watching the other dogs, from a distance. Then she went to the Kubota dealership for the first time....I got out of there with the least spent ever...a $3 part.
