This is a typical characteristic (note I didn't say symptom or problem) with front wheel assist tractors having mechanical engagement/disengagement. Not related to paint color or brand.

I've also had similar difficulty getting an older 4wd PU out of 4WD. I had to put PU in reverse for transfer case to disengage.

Yep. Seen this on all 3 of our Kubotas and on our Dodge 4x4 pickup...

Put it in reverse, drove a couple feet, pushed on clutch and MFWD lever and it came out easily.
Thanks!

An inch of movement would likely have done it!

I didn't test it but does it hurt the transmission to disengage the MFWD while moving?

That's the ONLY way I disengage the MFWD! No binding or difficulty in shifting if you're already moving. I've done that with all my 4WD trucks and tractors - for more years than I'd like to admit..

Never had a problem with a transfer case, or front driveline or front differential; on any of my rolling stock.

Sorry, what I meant to ask is does it hurt to ENGAGE the MFWD while rolling?

I think its easier on things while they are moving. The rolling slowly under no loaded prevents things from binding. Its what I do also with no problems yet, doesn't I won't pay for it one today, but I doubt it.
