Bob, our dealers (Nolans, Rosey Brothers, Dan's Farm and Flint New Holland all have great reputations, though Flint New Holland is lesser known to me than the others.

I think in my own mind I had dismissed the value of the 4 wheel drive, but in talking to others as well as what I'm hearing here it sounds like the way to go.

I guess I'll just do some tinkering at the dealers, though Nolans does not have any 990's right now. I'm looking forward to playing on the L4400. The 1533 looks like it may be a bit more narrow than I'll be comfortable with, but I'll check the specs to be sure it's not just an optical illusion.

4wd lets you use a lighter tractor to get the same traction. But even if the weights are similar, you have a much harder time getting 4wd tractors stuck, and a much harder time getting a 2wd UN-stuck.

Go tinker that is a good thing. Sit in the seats. Drive them on the lot. Ask for a demo at your property (many dealers will do this).

The specs will probably tell you that all the tractors are of similar width, but when you get in the seat and drive, your gut will tell you what feels too narrow for your comfort.

Branson is basically a TYM. Nice wide, stable, heavy tractor. HL50 loader is a plus too. Far away, I know. But might save you some $$$.

TYM is a contract manufacturer who builds tractors for other manufacturers. They also make their own line of machines, although they have a minimal dealer network here in the US, consequently very few people know who TYM is, but many know some of the brands they build. To my knowledge, TYM does their own designs, on some of their machines they use a Mitsubishi engine, on other machines they use Daedong engines.

For the most part, Branson & Century brands are clones of each other with differnet decals stuck on the tractors.
