How About a Horn?

Put better backup alarm on my wheel loader. Been living here thirty years. People build new house next door and husband calls me. His wife is "jumping out of her skin" when I backup! I have had it disconnected ever since. I too am sensitve to other peoples (and dogs) noise.
Same problem here , they move from city and complain. They really hate it when I shot my Mosin rife, it really barks. But if they don't like it they can always move back to city life. What really bugs me is they have to have every yard light and oútside light on at night and yards are so neat.

Been making bon fires here since 66. Fire Chief tells me, if neighbors complain, you have to put it out. "peoples health is more important" . SAD. this is a kid and country boy I used to play with at age twelve or so. "THEY" just got to him, and washed his brain I guess.

A horn and backup alarm are great assets when working around people unaware of their surroundings. I did muffle my backup alarm slightly as it was VERY loud.

I have all kinds of Emergency Vehicle Sirens. GOD, I love Wail/Yelp and AIR HORN! It would be cool to put them on my UTVs. But really, that would just be RUDE. I wouldn't like it if a neighbor did that. NOW, give me a neighbor with a (left outside) barking dog, and let's just say it's on! I would put a backup alarm on a push mower! lol

I have a horn on my tractor and I do not think I have ever used it. I do tend to work by myself.

I put one on my brand new JD 318 garden tractor years ago. It was indispensable.....Everytime I honked the horn, Mrs.tiller would come running outside with a cold beer for me.

Now, not so much. I got my own beer fridg and she quit running.:drink:

Now I have a reason to try the horn. Somehow I do not think the honk will lead to a cold one but it is worth a try.

I'm all for adding useful additions to a/my tractor... a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, rear view mirror and a set of ROPS mounted LED lighting. A horn has not been one of my considerations, the times that I could have used one are miniscule. YMMV regarding the need to draw attention to you and your operating equipment.

If you really want one I'd seriously suggest one of those bulbous 'honk horns' from a Model T era.

They used sell those in the bicycle section of Walmart. :D The magneto-electric Model-T horns didn't honk at all--They just made a squack sound.

All horns do out here is attract heifers or start stampedes.

Fire dept. actually came, and put out my brush pile fire.
Neighbor had complained.
I took my loader, and stacked the pile of charred brush/small logs on the property line, close to their house.
When it rained, that charred wood smelled nasty.
Couldn't smell it from my house....too far away.

Put one on my riding mower.
Used it one day to let the wife know that she needed to move her chair from the yard where I was mowing.
Needless to say havent done that since.

 I recall another poster saying he could count on that affectionate single finger wave each time. :D
