I have a total of (5): 43 hp JD 4120 with loader, 28 hp Ford 8n, 10 hp Farmall Cub, 15 hp JD LT-155 lawn/garden tractor, and 15 hp Poulan lawn tractor.
I could probably get by with just the two JD’s, but it’s very nice having the “extras”. The Farmall Cub was my latest addition. I had one before, but sold it when I lost some barn storage space (I don’t store any of my tractors outside).
I really missed it for light snow plowing (I use the JD 4120 for the heavy stuff). As soon as I got a new pole barn, I picked up another Cub.
There is no modern tractor that I’d rather have on my two bottom plow, two-row corn planter, or 3-point carryall, than my 1951 Ford 8n. That thing is a real pleasure to use with those tools.
I was worried about how it would plow, after the original furrow-side rear rim rusted thru from calcium solution and I replaced it with a new rim and unloaded rear. It actually plows much better that way, because traction is better on the furrow side and it no longer pulls the opposite way, like it did when both rears were loaded.
I usually leave the my 5 ft medium duty bush-hog on the JD 4120 all year except for the winter when the rear plow replaces it. The Ford 8n can just barely handle that bush-hog, if need be, but it certainly does not excel at any pto tasks.
The Ford 8n, being a lot lighter, is much easier to hitch/unhitch from any 3 point implement, than my JD 4120, so it gets most of the non-bushhogging tasks.
Finally, having the two lawn/mower tractors is very nice. The JD is hydrostatic and does most of the cutting, but when the grass is real thick or high, the gear/trans Poulan works better. Also, I pull the mower deck off the JD early in the fall, to give more clearance with my leaf sweeper. It’s nice having the Poulan in reserve then, to the handle the late cuts.
