I don't want to get into a tire choice war here, since that has been covered numerous times. My question is strictly about turf tires. How many of you that bought turf tires on smaller CUTs would do it again? I'm talking about B series Kubotas, JD 2000/3000 series, Mahindra 15 series, etc. If you would change, why?

I would definitely buy turfs again. I don't spend alot of time in the mud though. Ideally, i'd love to have two sets of wheels and tires like i did with my first tractor. My turfs are a great all around tire for me....... even in winter running the snowblower.

My JD 4200 came with turfs. Plowed snow, dug dirt haven't had any problems yet. With the loader I do wish the fronts were 6 ply though.

I got stuck in the mud pretty badly with turfs on a 4wd CUT with a FEL, the tires looked like slicks on a dragster. Went an ordered R4's right after that. :( Despite what I've read here about R4's and mud... it works for me.:D
Disclaimer: I don't (much) care about lawn damage, however the R4's appear to not damage the lawn (too much);)

The above post is the opinion of irwin and your experience may vary.

My B-6000 had what you might call turf's. Loved the tractor but in wet conditions it was all but useless. The 6000 has been more or less replaced with an L-3710 and a Sears GT-5000. The 5000 has turfs,it is useless in the wet, but it only needs to cut grass. The 3710 has R-4's, MUCH better in the wet, but will rut the place up in mud season.

Yes I know they are two different classes of tractors... But it all depends on what you are going to do with your tractor. If you are only going to cut grass, turfs are the way to go. If you are planing on using turfs in the snow, you will need chains. If you plan on using turfs during mud season.... Good luck!!!!

Had a Ford 1710 for 10+ years on turfs and, while they did save the lawn whenever I ventured across it, I appreciated them most in the winter and early spring. I mounted a set of chains late in the fall and never had a traction issue all winter and through mud season. It had most to do with the chains standing proud of the tires and not having a deep tra pattern (R4) to fall into.

Yah , you might just want ot get chains on the turfs.

If you want to be able to drive on a lawn with as little damage as possible then its a no brainer.

If you need to be able to operate in mud, then I would consider something else.

I ordered my GC2310 with turfs, and would not have it any other way. I have used tractors with bar tires, I will pass on them. If I need to work where there is bare dirt, and its muddy, I just wait for it to dry out.

Because of the weight of the hoe and 4wd, I am able to plow snow on my gravel drive with turfs, no problem.

I have both turfs and r4's. I don't see any difference other than size and ply. With the tufs my horsepower is up, ground speed is down. R4's horsepower down and speed is up. R4s don't seem to hurt lawn unless wet and turfs do lose traction with loader on in low gear and in snow. These are my brief findings in 6 months of operation. Good luck.
