How Often Do I Need to Bush Hog?

Basically aim to cut twice a year.

Once in mid to late june after the cool season grasses have done their growth spurt, and once in september when warm season grasses have done their growth spurt.

I have to admit, I took CowboyDocs advice and mow my area at 6". It does seem to make a difference. My pastures are greener then ever. Funny thing is, I was at about 4" before. My mower cuts at +/- 5 15/16" now and those couple of rocks "shiners" are no longer a concern. I like to mow every 2 to 3 weeks. After that, the amount of cut grass laying on top top get rather heavy. Cheers to CowboyDoc for the suggestion.

The more you cut.. the better it looks.

Our neighbor cuts his pasture with a little JD CUT and 4' rotary mower.every week. he sharpens the blades regularly, and his 'lawn' looks as good as a riding lawnmower cut.

Just depends on what YOU are looking for.

I made the mistake of letting the back 0ne third of my 2.33 acres grow up and grow wild for the past 20 or 25 years.
It used to be nice green grassy lawn but now it's a jungle back there.
Resently had a guy brush hog it at 40 per hour which wasn't cheap.
Still a pretty large grove of dense 2 to 6 inch trees that have to go.
And a lot of raking of derbis.

What a head ache and expense trying to reclaim this third of my yard.

Do I ever wish I'd have kept it mowed instead of leting it go?
Only every time I'm back there working on cleaning it up.
