Flail Mower How to change the rotor bearing on a JD 25A flail.

Anyone have more pics detailing the square versus round bearing styles? I called flailmaster we couldnt figure out which was which ...

I believe mine may be the same as the original poster the older ser. #626186E but it appears to have the "newer" square housing?

Anybody out there have experience with this??

Thank goodness all bearings and V belts are metric.

I think you have Seal Master Bearings there.

Is the grease fitting at the bottom of the bearing housing
behind the guard or inside the mower shroud?


If your bearings are bad it just takes time to fix them right with lots of
200 plus grit emery paper to make sure the rotor shaft will pass through
the inner race and allen wrenches to unlock the bearing from the shaft stubs.

Grease zert is about 10:00 in the pic. Maybe I can get a part # from the bearing itself if I look closer.

The bearing will typically have a part number of the edge of the inside (small) "cylinder". Not sure how to describe it. It's the collar part that actually comes into contact with the shaft that the bearing is going on.

JD40M077, I think you can figure out which one you have by looking at JD Parts and looking up the bearing and checking it against your serial number.

Since I originally posted this, I've changed the bearings several times. It's really pretty simple, but for the rotor bearings, you have to take each side off so you can move the rotor to the side enough to remove the bearing. Not hard, just time consuming.
