How to fix crushed Gas can

   / How to fix crushed Gas can #21
HMMM, I just purchased a pair of new 5 gallon diesel cans at Menards recently, didn't even notice if they had vents or not. About putting water in a gas can, well, I recently rinsed out the fuel tank on my Honda Foreman 450, even with the tank off and upside down there was still moisture in it I couldn't get rid of...solution is to add some gas line antifreeze to absorb the water. Every other gas can I have is the older type with a vent...gotta go look at the ones I just purchased...TOMORROW.

Nope, the cans I purchased have no vent, it has been about 7 years since I purchased a new can. I have a bunch of those older type squarish Chilton brand cans, the problem with them is after a while the spouts start leaking because they don't seal well.

I swear, I've spilled more fuel with these 'Gestapo' mandated safety cans, than I ever did in the last 50 years..........

I was just 'Venting'...........(Pun intended)

Red - Gasoline
Blue- Kerosene
Yellow- Diesel

Correct?

Aint that the truth. Anyone tried putting a valve stem in the can for a vent? (removing the valve) does the cap seal up adequately?

Yup..... if you use a metal valve stem...

I have rubber ones n my cans and they are fine.
The hole side has to be exact or a hair undersized and pop them in obviously the valve stem is removed and get better caps not the plastic ones.

Hmm...gives me an idea!:thumbsup: One question though: will the gas jockey fill my can if it has been "tampered with"?:(

What -- you won't fill your own can? -- I haven't seen a gas jockey in years!:eek::eek:
I bought some cans at an auction that looked just like the OP's picture -- and they were vented - a little gas in the hot sun and pop -- back to original shape
