So we better agree up fron to make alot of assumptions on what the numbers mean.. that way we can have some debate.. even though there will be cold hard facts ( hot hard facts? )

That is interesting, Andy. They say that raising the oil temperature from 60ºC to 70ºC (140ºF to 158ºF) can reduce the oil's life by 1/2. That's pretty dramatic.

I'm glad I put the weather caveat in my post, as the weather has not permitted me to go out and bushhog to take readings, it's too dad gummed hot!

Well really, Doc says I've got to stay out of the sun for a week or two, guess the grass will just have to grow for a while. I'll probably be refering back to the "How to cut waist high grass" thread when i can get out again. I'll make good on the temp readings then.

I caught a break early this morning. Heavy overcast and no dew. Doc said "no sun", not stay inside.

Since we've drug this thread a little off topic, I start a new one in Owning and Operating with the temp readings.

So, the next question is, what is the life of the oil? If it is 1200 hours and it is cut in half, then 600 hrs? Has the oil life estimates been factored in with high temps in mind along with the manufacturer having change intervals that make oil life irrelevant even if run at 158????

That must be the critical temp where many of the addatives start breaking down..
