I just went to online and found Keller Bros. in Lebanon PA. I talked to a very helpful guy there. Not only do they have all the parts in stock including the missing head bolt but my order will be here this monday and he'll send me a message on torquing the bolt into the engine. Great service in my book. A neophytes dream.

I am amazed that you ordered and are waiting for a sender unit without knowing that is the problem. Check the pressure with a guage. Then order the sending unit.

Is the head bolt missing.. or broke off ?

That's one of my thoughts...the other is "not a headbolt hole". I can see exhaust gases, oil or coolant coming out of a missing headbolt hole ...maybe.:(

A repair manual will come in handy MLD. Be very sure before changing headbolt status.....especially if it's not causing problems.;)

You did not say what year your tractor is. Older Kubota b7100'S have a plug in the end of the camshaft that can come out. If the plug falls out the oil pump can not build up pressure. Do a search for "b7100 camshaft plug" on this site and read about it.

Don't be amazed, you're dealing with a neophyte just following instructions and advice some of which are found right here on this thread.

Head bolt: The joke is on me. Either it has been broken off exactly two inches
down with no screw threads visible or felt with my probing dowel. Or it is Part #(006- 99999-99999 Blank Quantity zero). a hole to nowhere. At least this is the best I can figure from the Kubota CYLINDER HEAD GROUP Page of the parts and diagram manual.

I've also searched this sight about the broken camshaft plug and found the article in question. The only" Plug" listed in the Camshaft group as part # 15261-96860 and 96880 I'll be glad to email Diagrams to any interested. I would love to know if this is the part in question.

Thank you for your patience.

Oh by the way, Welcome Aboard! ...and don't let anyone talk you out of having an idiot light as they will get your attention when a gauge may not. Having a gauge AND an idiot light is the best. Engine oil is the lifeblood of your engine and knowing its status is very important.

Once you get used to the oil pressure gauge readings under various circumstances they can alert you to a change. Change in oil pressure from what it usually does is not usually a good thing.

My Kubota has an idiot light to indicate when air flow is restricted. It warns me to clean or replace one of the two air filters. The tractor is 7 years old and has just under 1000 hours on it and I have replaced the sender/sensor for the "filter minder" idiot light 4 times. First it starts to flash at high RPM but go out at reduced RPM then it stays on at lower and lower RPM until finally it will come on steady at low (just above idle) RPM. A new sensor switch and all is OK except when one of the new ones was defective right out of the box. I don't complain much about Kubota quality because there isn't much to complain about but this particular part is NOT very robust.

The part is rather expensive but thankfully is easy to replace mechanically and trivial to hook up electrically.

By any chance, could the hole in the head be an oil return drain back to the pan? If there is a machined boss for a head bolt, then I'm guessing there is/was a head bolt there. If its an unmachined hole, it could be an oil drain hole.

I'm the idiot not the light.

We changed the sending unit and put on a meter making a "T" slick as a whistle. looked like a pro had done it. Started it up and got no pressure reading on the gauge.

Messed with it some more bleeding out the air from the new fittings, tried it again and got nothing on the meter.

Still the idiot light is not coming on and its purring like a kitten no smoke no banging and.... no pressure on the gauge.

Finally my buddy say's put it in low idle I'm going to back off the meter till it
bleeds oil. It did leak some, but very little.

We shut it down he took the meter ( OFF ) completely and just put his finger covering the hole and started it up, he could almost hold it back. That's low pressure all right.

I've read somewhere that the light should come on at 7 pounds. The light did not come on once except at almost dead idle as it should, and it started and ran smooth, smooth, smooth, as can be.

At really high revs the meter ticked just a smidge so the meter works.

Kubota Sam wrote about the cam shaft plug that may come out and will not allow pressure to build. If this plug is off where is the oil going. There are no leaks on this very clean machine.

Why no Idiot light for 15 plus minutes when it does comes on at dead idle?

Did the person selling me this, and telling me more than once there's nothing wrong with this machine, and refusing my request to do an oil change because he had just done it 20 hours ago, put some super thick oil in this so no light comes on for 15 to 30 minutes? Just enough to do a test drive around the parking lot.

I'm getting another friend to do a gauge test then bringing it to a dealer to see what's really wrong with it.
