Indeed. My dealer (1st time buyer) responded that I could not use HHO in my tractor, as well. I said, oh, okay, I'll just use this in the oil burner in the shed... He replied, ok, no problem. You can buy whatever you want, he need not know, nor control, nor give a rat's backside about where or how you use it. Tell him you curl your hair with it.

'Tis an odd requirement if you think about it. Based on my first two usages, if I go thru 10 gal of diesel this summer I'll be amazed. But I see 300 gal. tanks on homes (I don't heat with oil), so I'd bet heating a home for the winter uses easily 10x that much - with the resulting sulfur oxides heading straight up the chimney.

I know I'm a lightweight deisel user, but still, there must be far more sulfur going up the chimney from homes than from off-road machinery. I may be wrong.

ETA: Cross-posted with LBrown59 and about 10 others, agree with his last statement. My "indeed" was aimed at gemin5362's post, bottom of pg 1.

Diesel fuel way, way out sells home heating oil and according to one of the fellows who works at our loading facility, home heating oil sales went down after the covert marker dye started to be added. You can only guess why! All off-road diesel fuel will have to meet the 15 ppm spec. nation wide by 2014! Non-road Diesel Fuel Standards

Same law here in PA. I have a hand pump on my fuel oil tank at the shop that I use to fuel my backhoe, forklift, skid loader, and mower. When I order fuel, I have to remove the pump or they won't fill the tank.

Those who have heavy equipment are feeling the price increase also.

I think in my entire life in Arkansas I have only seen one person use heating oil to heat their home with. I am sure there are people who do it but they are not a big majority. I would not even have a clue where to go about finding home heating oil. If I had a way of getting it I might try it in my tractor. Hopefully it would be cheaper than off road diesel.

It's the opposite around here. I can't find "off-road diesel" to save my life.

I guess as well, I should have clarified. I suspect that the amount of off road diesel usage isn't nearly as great as on road, and may be (at least in some areas) comparable to HHO usage.

But I really have no idea. At any rate, one should not have to pay on-road tax for an off-road product, or deal with all the attendant rebate forms - like i said, I'll probably use less than 10, certainly no more than 20 gal. this year, and I'm just tightwad enough (or sick of seeing good money thrown after bad) to want to keep the $12 difference! Better in my pocket than theirs!

Just curious, Is there a state form you fill out and submit receipts to get the taxes back?

Based on what was stated in the OP, I'd say yes (at least for MA). Perhaps you could PM him.

Nice set up. I have a 12/24 volt pump setup. I find that the 12 volt is fast enough and use a battery, I was wondering it the charger alone is enough to power the pump direct. set to 12 volt slow or fast ?
thanks

*recent laws prohibit using anything other than Low Sulphur on-road diesel in machinery.

* What's wrong with using Low Sulfur off-road diesel?

How do they get off with prohibiting using fuel in off road vehicles that is specified for off road vehicles?

Well, that begs the question of where on earth do you get it? I've even had the field man from the Petroleum Retailer's Association (whose offices are right down the hall from ours) checking his member stations, and none of them sell it.

Hence I go to the local HHO/On-road bulk diesel guy and buy the HHO. As you say, it's likely all the same stuff anyway, plus or minus the dyes (and the taxe$).
