Pruning a thread is much like pruning a tree. First, a neighbor (the TBN members) points out your tree is ugly or sick and needs trimming. You stand back and look at it, figure out which branches need clipping, step into it and clip a branch or two. Then you step back to look at it and find another branch has grown (TBN members are prolific posters). Try as you might to make sense of the thread, people keep adding branches. So you freeze the thread by locking it, take time to re-read the entire thread for continuity, consult your fellow moderators on the gnarly widow makers hanging in the branches and figure out the best way to prune it. If it is not possible to save the tree but is in no danger of falling on anyone, you leave it locked. If it is going to hurt someone, you remove it. And if the tree survives your pruning, you unlock it and let it live and continue to grow.kenmac said:Mike, That's sounds like a better idea. Why not do this( prune the thread of un- wanted or offensive stuff) instead of closing the whole thread b-4 others get a chance to add comments ?
Really, I'd rather just sit here and read TBN and not have to moderate anything. But I, like many other TBN members, sometimes make inappropriate posts and don't even realize it until someone else points it out. Wether making a comment that offends someone else, or stepping too deep into politics or religion, or being too zealous promoting only the greatest tractor ever made, I take no offense when one of my posts is moderated.
