After living in south central KY for six years, I finally decided it was time to set up some of my heated water buckets for our horses on Saturday. With some creative placement, a few heavy short extention cords and just one new circuit for the 100 gallon tub, I was sure glad I took the time to set them up. Nice to not have to break ice and the it is better for the horses to have water at all times.
We have been selling off excess "stuff" at the flea market and some yard sales during 2013. During the fall, I had 15 heated buckets that several people looked at until I finally sold them via Craigslist. (I had around 25 of them leftover from boarding horses.) I sold them for 15 bucks each which is about half from new. I bet those folks are happy!
We should see more normal temps tomorrow which is a good thing for the area I am in because otherwise, underground water lines would probably start getting frozen.
I drive school bus for the county where I live. We were to go back last Thusday but they cancelled that day and Friday. Then, on Sunday they cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. I keep my bus at home and I plug it in. I had it running and checked out last Wednesday already but then as I said, they cancelled. With no school, we were supposed to go in for a meeting today but then they cancelled that as well due to icy roads this am. Then they called me back and asked me to check out the bus which I had planned to do anyway. When I called them back to say I was fine, the supervisor said that they had several in the yard that would not turn over. Not usually seeing these temps, they do not have plugs available.
We went out for to run some errands and I heard on the radio that school was cancelled again for Wednesday the 8th but our meeting is on. I bet I will find out that they figured on having to much engine trouble along with frozen air brakes. We have some snow in the forecast for Thursday morning now so I bet they will call off that day as well. The kids will be gripping come the middle of May and it is hot in that bus while they make some days up, lol!
Sure is different from when I was in grade school and the bus was like a 46' or 48' model year with no heat and chained up! Different time and place though. But then we do have to take these buses on some roads that will make your hair stand up on a good day. That and liability.
