Dougster, you can fix it, make it better than new. :) While you are working on it, read this, and ponder...

Well, isn't that special! :D

I guess all of us here know the Model 6 is fundamentally unsafe. Looks like someone in the UK figured that out as well. I'm betting that yours is the all-new "safer" version. Only time will tell if some sort of legal action is taken here to recall and/or modify these crazy machines.

Last week I received a 'non-Jinma' chipper. The feed roller shaft assembly is pitiful, and it totally failed after 30 minutes.
It appears to me that ALL of us need the shaft assembly pictured in the two photos Tommy kindly posted. Does anyone know who supplies the shaft assembly in Tommy's photos?
I had a drive line shop fab one for me, but it's somewhat too long for the 8 1/4" shaft-to-shaft spacing. I'm trying to find a welder to come out and extend the gearbox mounting plate 3" so that the gearbox can be mounted farther away from the feed roller. I believe that extra distance will both flatten the angle and allow this really heavy-duty U-joint assembly the travel it needs.

Howdy, John ran across the chipper in EBAY that had the driveshaft in it...

eBay: Wood Chipper 6"dia. WC6 Cat.1 3pt 25-45HP Rating (item 170110767493 end time Jul-09-07 09:39:00 PDT)

The company that sells it says it has parts on hand to sell, so I would contact them. There is already a link somewhere on this site to a video on U-Tube of a chipper that was modified with a stronger/longer driveshaft than what is on this unit on EBAY, something simular to what you want to do. You're right, the farther you can get away from the roller the less angle you end up on the universals. The mod that is on U-Tube has an idler pulley to keep the belt from rubbing on the old gearbox platform, but I plan on cutting the old platform off and will make my own farther out, maybe someday...............

Interesting idea. Meanwhile, we are all trying to get Tommy to put together an upgrade kit... in particular for the Jinma's... that is, if they don't get recalled (or otherwise outlawed) first!!!

Chippers mine now, they can't have it. Lest they pry it from my cold dead hands............................ In a few more days, I'll have enough things changed on it that they wouldn't reconize it, anyway. :)

Well, gotta tell you Jerry that the UK PDF you posted has me thinking that a similar USA PDF can't be far behind! Lots of government officials out there trying to keep you and me safe... and keep their nifty government jobs while they're at it! :) Shall we bet on how much longer it will be before these things are discovered and banned?

And the worst part? So far, I couldn't care less if they DID recall mine. I'm not a very happy camper so far. Still the bug Jerry... Still the bug. :(

That PDF is kind of an eye opener. You have to be mighty careful using it. Sometimes you overlook the safety for the price but the aggravation and danger isn't sometimes worth it with the Chinese and OTHER foreign products. I'm not putting any product down just asking where you draw the line? If you don't mind aggravation and like to walk the razors edge fine. I like products that are dependable and safe from the get go. I walked that route before and took my losses. I am happy with what I have now. I have a foreign product but it has a proven safety and track record. When I turn the key I know what I'm getting..And it starts every time.

Here's the email response I received from the company that has the the feed roller driveshaft assemblies that are shown in the photos Tommy posted:

Yes we have them available. They are $93.00 plus $12.00 for shipping and handling. Minimum working distance on 1/2" squared end is 10 1/2" Let me know if you would like one sent.

I don't know what the going rate for parts for your broken wobble-shaft except this link to CircleG...

Jinma Wood Chipper Parts : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Using their prices, the price they quoted you sounds pretty good. My only question would be what they mean by the 'square shaft end'. I would give them a call [they list an 800 number on their EBAY ad], and make sure it will fit your unit. My unit has a male 1/2" [or metric lookalike] on both ends, clutch and feed roller [driveshaft has female on both ends], and maybe their clutch unit is made different. But maybe you could get one of them, also. Good luck, Jerry.

Not to confuse things, but this guy is operating up from our street... Make it Jinma #4

tytaninternational

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? I like the footing, but what scares me about all of these is getting parts...

Anyone have any final comments on the BETST version? They are just south of us... And there is a Jinma dealer a bit closer...
