What is the "C-range lockout"?

These machines have 3 range hydrostatic transmissions-A,B and C. A is like granny gear, B is like the all purpose gear and is used the most, C is like a "road gear", very fast and very little torque. This kit keeps the C range from being used.

OK, So that's what dfkrug was talking about when he said "I was wondering why the mounting position of my floor pan keeps my GO pedals from completely articulating.". That was part of the design of the rental upgrade to keep the speed down on the machines and help prevent wear & tear. Thanks for the explaination. Now I'm back on the same page.

Well, look at this: it looks like another rental tractor option from JD.
Under-floor armor to protect the hyd hardlines. My tractor has endured
some impacts there.

The part number is LVU10950 and lists for $120. The skid plate was part of a kit that is no longer available; but the other parts in the kit are standard hardware store items, which is good as you can avoid dealing with sales and just go directly to the parts guys. I like this option as those lines are vulnerable.

No, the rental upgrade keeps the shifter from going into the HI range, and
there is the underfloor armor I was talking about. With the armor, the
floor panel seems to be mounted a half inch or so higher (on both sides).
That would give me more pedal clearance, but my problem seems to be
more due to pedal adjustment. I replaced my HST control rods, and there
is a lot of adjustment involved. You can set the pedal heights within a
certain range.

Got it.

Wow, I bet you cant wait to see a backhoe on your 4300. Since the neighbor lost his shop/mancave last week to a huge fire, ive decided it would be fun to fix up his tractor that was inside durring the fire. It is a John Deere 4100 with a FEL and a rototiller. He did have insurance on most everything in the building but he did loose $500,000 worth of stuff. I originally wanted to fix the FEL and the tiller but yesterday my mom's friend said that a diesel tractor is usually saveable since it is only going to loose the plastics/ rubbers/ and wiring. Oh, and the paint. Looking at the tractor, externally it looks in fare shape except the tires are gone and so is all the paint. I was the last one to drive the tractor and did notice it had some things that needed to be fixed. Like the FEL cylinders had internal leaking so they couldnt hold in a curl or lift for very long. The 3 point had issues with lowering the tiller, and it seemed to like to turn left on inclines. If I do in fact get it, it will be a major project and im sure it will cost a bit in parts but in the end I will have a nice tractor for a very low price. It would be my 3rd tractor. Im 14! Opinions are welcome and so is any advice. Oh, my mom knows some people who know a lot about working with diesel engines as well as a guy who used to be a mechanic at John Deere. So I wouldnt be alone. I will most likely have to wait to work on the tractor itself until my mom builds a shop next summer so my first focus is the tiller and the FEL. The only problem, getting it home. I will probably remove the tiller and haul it home on my forks. I would do the same with the FEL but i know it wouldnt work to well.

If its been in a fire, I would pass on it, unless the damage is very light. If it burned the paint off and roasted the tires, it got hot and that can weaken the metal.

Not only that, a lot of the seals/o-rings could be melted or damaged (warped/distorted) from heat so that once you got it running, it might start leaking from any number of places. You see what it did to the rubber tires, right? You could really tie up some money into having to replace a bunch of seals. I would have to pass it on it, but that's just my opinion.
