<sigh> You completely missed my point. If you were less concerned about confirming your bias that I am somehow lying about my credentials and what I do, this might be a little more obvious.

But, as you're not, allow me to explain.

Research integrity of findings is crucial. These results are not yet peer-reviewed. So, as I have said on here multiple times, caution should be taken in interpreting them. People asked to see the things I'm working on, so I obliged.

Furthermore, when results are published, they are done so as a complete paper. This is not that. I quickly put together a figure and shared it in an informal setting. My worry is that if the figure were to be copied and posted somewhere else without an appropriate description, it could lead to any number of misinterpretations, because the full context may not be related with the figure.

See what I'm doing here? As a scientist, we try to be responsible in not just performing the research, but also how it is disseminated, to avoid confusion and possible misinterpretations, as occur when individuals try to twist things to fit their narrative.

Hence, I asked individuals to please not share it to prevent it from being distributed without full context, potentially leading to misinterpretation/misunderstanding.

Easy Timmy.......

Show me where I've ever doubted what you've posted or your credentials.

As I said twice now. Tell me something. Then whisper in my ear to not tell anyone. Brings up credibility issues.

Now you are confirming that you posted something on this subject as fact and now are asking everyone reading this thread to not share it because it might lead to misinterpretation/misunderstanding.

Then why the "H" did you post it????? So now I am left to wonder about everything you post as to whether it's conclusive or inconclusive???

The Internet is a two way street.

Oh great, A vehicle I can use to broadcast my ideas!

And then comes the feeback, backlash, hecklers, naysaysers, jealous bones, haters, whatever.

One thing is for sure. You had better not take yourself too seriously.

I agree.

In my current discussion with RSR I am simply warning that what he says might lead to misinformation. So,,,, as a professional he should glean out that information and stick to the things that have been researched and proven. Leave the "armchair quarterbacking" to the uneducated like me. We'll find enough misinformation to chase without him contributing more. :)

You must not have listened to the whole thing but just picked out the words you wanted.

She states "if you actually followed all the asymptomatic cases, isolated those cases, followed the contacts, quarantined the contacts, we would drastically reduce the transmission.

Yes, What I heard is "Drastically reduce transmission due to a VERY RARE OCCURANCE. i.e. asymptomatic transmission.

A drastic reduction of a very small number is an even smaller number. You may have heard something different. What were you looking for?

Is your memory that poor? You posted, "As a self proclaimed expert you should never, ever post something and stipulate that it shouldn't be forwarded because it's an "ongoing investigation"

You lost credibility with that one...." There is a clear connotation of "I don't believe you."

I wonder about your reading comprehension as well, because I already answered the questions you are repeating here.

I did post something, as fact, and asked people not to share it. Because, as a responsible researcher, I don't want things taken out of context. I don't care if people talk about what I posted, what I don't want is someone taking the image, posting it somewhere else, and then writing their own narrative of what they think it means. That would be irresponsible of me to do, so I ask people not to.

Again, I posted it because there were two posters that commented they would be interested in seeing more, using the tongue-in-cheek comment of "Pictures, or it didn't happen." So, I obliged.

I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about any of this?

this is MY thread, if you feel there are too many stupid replies here, feel free to lock it, or hide it away!.. I see many aggravating posts already!..

I imagine radios1 returning to this thread feels a little like a parent, that returns early from a long-weekend away to find their house absolutely trashed from their kids throwing an unsanctioned party, thinking, "What the heck just happened here!?!?!?!"

I'll try to be better about reigning in my frustrations, and be better-behaved.

On a positive note, this thread now has over 500 comments! Perhaps we should pause and recognize that at least in spite of the vast differences between each of us, it's made it this far without getting shut down. That's hopefully saying something positive.

I just saw some kid kick a hole in the speakers! Maybe he didnd't like the music or something.

Reminds me of a house party (parrents absent) I once went to at age 15 or so.

LoL...How quickly memory fades..or how peeps like to remember things...

Americans did not even take social distancing seriously (let alone wearing masks) until the virus was fully out of control...l
And then even some refused to adhere...unless you're forgetting all the unrelated protesting and demonstrating ??

Why is there a faction of society that is constantly trying to rewrite and retell history in a way that leans heavily to only their biases?

TDS...

I wonder how the homeless "tent people" are getting a pass on this virus? No masks, no social distancing, no hand sanitizer, no hand washing for that matter.

Yet......no bodies in the gutters due to flu virus.....

The best of intention perhaps.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time, bud. So you're saying that we should just blame everyone individually for being careless, and that better leadership and guidance would have had no effect or improvement on our collective behavior? What is the point of government, if not leadership during times of crisis, then?

Stop bringing up the racial justice protests, its a total non-sequitur and red herring. People took to the streets out of justified rage over clear racial disparities in community policing and our criminal justice system. People didn't go out protesting because they wanted to spread or contract a virus, they were just angry and had to show it. If you look at almost every protest, most of those people WERE wearing masks, even outdoors, and to my knowledge almost zero spread of covid-19 was traced to these events. To the contrary, it was the house parties, crowded bars, pool parties, etc, that were we EASILY traced huge numbers of covid spread. One packed night at a bar here in Lansing Michigan led to almost 100 cases, so we smartly shut 'em back down.

I'm gonna step out of this one for a while (hopefully). In the end it clearly doesn't matter what we debate here. Attitudes like yours are finally just a minority in this fine country. If not for the electoral college and gerrymandering... woof, what could have been.

Lol....

fatjay

You have not been paying attention. Police and military are enforcing public masking. Around the globe. Sick isn't it!

Where will it end? "Systemic racism is an epidemic" according to some governors. Will masks be effective in "flattening the curve"?

I don’t know where you’re at, but here (eastern PA) we (the police) are most certainly not enforcing masking mandates of any kind.

/ just when you thought you knew what stupid was #532
Apparently the same with the 5 million or so inhabitants of the slums of Mumbai. It didn't decimate them either.

WOW!!. that's very, very sad!!.. you have to wear a mask in New York, and anyone coming into the State has to be quarantined for 2 weeks, we don't need sick people spreading the virus here!!..

/ just when you thought you knew what stupid was #534
Yes, blasting away. at "masks work to reduce the spread" ideology. To what end?
How does one rectify the similarity of infection curve of maskless Sweden to that of masked New Jersey? Seasonal.... ?
How does one respond to the virus found in animals?

And when a new, or the same old flu comes next season, we renew all efforts trying to flatten the curve and reduce the spread with more authority? Having ONLY learned that we did not enforce compliance "enough" previously. It's like experiments in socialism, none of the previous efforts did it right. This next time we will.

I see no light at the end of this "reduce the spread" effort other than natural seasonal demise, good hygiene, and healthy life choices.
The mental and emotional burden on society to live in fear of EVERYONE will not lead to any desirable outcome. Children afraid to contact their peers or their parents for fear of killing them. The answer is NOT stepping well to the side of the trail as you pass.

That's just anti-social.

/ just when you thought you knew what stupid was #535
That's just anti-social.

Read the sentence as "The answer is NOT", rather than "The answer IS" Big difference in my meaning.

Another reason to disparage masking. Communication. A human necessity.

Word are the source of all misunderstandings.

If you have a grouch/grump face like I do then maybe with my mask I’ll make more friends. Just another upside to doing my part. ;)

/ just when you thought you knew what stupid was #537
I wonder what the results would be if the Gov. started testing EVERYONE for the common flu?
We KNOW it kills thousands every year and IF asymptomatic people were tested what would we find?

Never mind that; imagine if everybody practiced basic hygiene; cover your mouth when you cough, wash your hands after you sneeze on them. Stay home if you are sick...

In other words, all of the things which our mothers taught us when we were 3 years old.

/ just when you thought you knew what stupid was #538
Keep your hands away from your face.

Don't lick your fingers.

Wash your hands immediately upon returning home.

Sanitize your hands after touching things meant to be touched like hand rails for instance.

In a restaurant, I wash my hands before I eat (after handling the menu) and often after.

Avoid touching door handles and knobs with your hands and fingers. I use my knuckles for pressing elevator buttons.

I have practiced this for years and NEVER get the flue. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. And my life style otherwise is FAR from healthy!

Just a case of engaging your brain in your normal daily activity.

You could draw a big grin on your mask like this :D that would either make people smile or frighten them.

I'm not sure they are (I honestly don't know). Are there any reliable statistics that distinguish/investigate infection and death rates in the homeless population?
